Haha, i've just looked at this and it seems i have 2gig also?? Yet cpu x shows 1gig and oe is 512meg. Board has 2x512meg chips? I'm not pretending to be some clued up person when it comes to this sort of thing, but things just dont add up to me......

Not really. Cyx firmware fakes RAM amount and your boxes have only 512MB of RAM. Confirmed by device tree. It does not lie. I will compile a "m201d" build for these boxes with a proper device tree. OE is much less RAM hungry and it should run fine with 512MB.
