Did a little testing.

Played a VP9 1080p@60fps on my PC and the same video on the Android Youtube app using 1080p@60fps avc1 and compared the bandwidth being used and it was almost identical.

Tested another and got the same results, which was surprising.

If bitrate is a same, the quality is a double in vp9. Vp9 have Double of quality in same banding.

I have a keen eye and was unable to see any real difference.

The concept should be that if the bitrate is the same then the file size of the VP9 equivalent should be much smaller and use up far less bandwidth.

I was not seeing this.

It does also have to be noted that VP9 is by no means the predominate method of encoding on Youtube at this time.

No, unfortunately that is still the same although I was not expecting it to as it was not on the last changelog.

wasser Here's how to reproduce it:
1) Play any DTS 5.1 movie with MX Player or ES Media Player. If I play a large file movie I can recreate it.
2) Make sure you're using passthrough audio (SPDIF or HDMI)
3) Pause the movie or fast forward the movie
4) Press Play if you've paused it and you'll notice that the audio is lost
5) Killing off the app and opening it back up will bring the audio back

I think this can also be replicated with the default movie player.

Hi wasser, thanks for the new release v4.0.9.

I´m currently testing it, but I had noted a regression regarding to the stability of 5Ghz WiFi; I set the right region and connect; but after a couple of minutes the connection is lost; I have to reconnect, but this is ocurring frequently to me; i HAD swicthed now to ethernet to can work, but with the Wifi problem I think I won't stay with this version.
I had tested the USB camera, with some problems had started to work and produce image, but I cannoyt continue becuase the system get frozen. I have to disconnect it and reboot the device to can continue working; so, however the camera start to work, it cannot be used because the system crashed, currently still is not functional.

I will test the other aspects...

update1:

After flash a custom recovery CWM to install framework for xposed, reboot the system had started optimizing applications, I thinlk this had produced good result on many glicthes after that...

-. 5G Wifi become stable; now it´s usable I´m running now the box with 5G Wifi, stable, full spedd, Ok
-. The camera become operative, now they are stable both, C170 & C525; video cannot be recorder; each time when connected require reboot to be recognized; the resolution and set up options can be improved, looks like this driver it´s the most basic one.
-. 4K 60 and 50 hz had been improved, but still appear cuts off image/sound ( black screen without sound around each 90 to 120 seconds.
-. The apps that require a directory to be used as cache or to save recordings still can not write to the USB drives or External SD card; they only can write on Internal memory which is not the most advisable.
-. Youtube app it´s working splendid..

update 2:
-. AV / TV out feature working very good, automatically. For this I normally turn off the TV box, unplug the HDMI cable and plug the AV (RCA) cable; the device start with PAL mode as default; in my case I have to change to NTSC, the quality of the image and colors are very good.

Yeah these are good news, this MM is become better and better.

The custom recovery that I had used is CWM v1.1 (generic v 6.0.5.1) from http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/. I use this because make easy to me the process of install the framework zip file from external SD, and as well the stock IR remote works fine here; but I had tested before in LP the TWRP v2.2 from the same web site which is fine also, but I cannot find how to install zip file from external SD card.
The xposed I use XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk with framework xposed-v86-sdk23-arm.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=3034811

humm, I don´t know this time about TWRP; as I had said above I had used CWM, and the optimizations performed after the first reboot coming from CWM recovery I believe had helped to stabilize some things, specially relative to the 5Ghz WiFi instability, maybe help with "camera" app. Why you don´t try flashing CWM now and see if this helps. Xposed, nor youtube adaway module, I think has nothing to do with youtube performance, I´m running and YT 1080p - 60 fps is the best performance ever, the smoothest; so YT performance had been unaffected for me after flashed the recovery CWM.

TWRP itself of course won't affect performance as it operates outside of the OS and I did uninstall the Xposed app and xposed modules but this didn't make any difference.

I can only think that the framework is what has had an effect, so when the next firmware comes out I'll try it with just CWM and test again.

It is often strange that one person can often get an improvement from a change and another see a regression.

All part of the fun though lol
