You have many potential elements that could change things along the route of the video signal.

    The firmware
    The box
The TV (with potential additional processing and change).

.The point being that as the signal passes through each element, it may get interpreted incorrectly with the end result being logical as far as all the constituent elements are concerned but not to your eyes.

Not only in HD ready TVs 1080i is not shown in these roms, many Full HD and 4K have available this mode; simply this mode is not supported or not added to the FW; so this is not a bug or issue here. I guess this mode is considered irrelevant and it's not included; I had see Minix including the mode on FWs on others devices, but it's Minix approach. In fact there are a lot of controversy what it's better or has real higher resolution 720p vs 1080i; i had read that 1080i is equal or equivalent to 540p, so 720p would better and higher resolution and the progressive mode it's a lot better for motion images, movies, sports, games. So maybe that is the reason why this mode had been removed or not included in the majority of the FWs or custom roms on many diiferent TV box brands.

Good posts Blues, but keep in mind 1080i is a crap overlay and no longer used in any device. So why support it as same quality as the 720. Lot of posts about a useless résolution. I agree move on no need to support it.
Many devices now mk902ii/Shield/Mk68 /Ugoos/neox5/minix5 (yes they still work lol) mk80 no it doesnt work lol.

Yes it is true that 1080p overlays have tended not to be as good as you would have thought that they should be.

Just think what 4K overlays would be like lol

The custom recovery that I had used is CWM v1.1 (generic v 6.0.5.1) from http://crewrktablets.arctablet.com/. I use this because make easy to me the process of install the framework zip file from external SD, and as well the stock IR remote works fine here; but I had tested before in LP the TWRP v2.2 from the same web site which is fine also, but I cannot find how to install zip file from external SD card.
The xposed I use XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk with framework xposed-v86-sdk23-arm.zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=3034811
Interessting I will test that. But could it be that the "optimizing" you saw is simply because CWM wiped Cache/Davlik by default ?!?

I find no indication of whether the current version 4.09 with Kodi & forks still has problems?

              Still on "Wasser 2.09" -> Beelink R89 + SPMC -> HDMI -> DENON AVR-2312 -> HDMI -> FullHD-TV.

I think you are right, now that you bring this to the table I guess this it´s a good assumptiom in this case; I didn´t by myself but may be that it´s done by default or a consequence of installing the CWM mentioned; reading a few articles about that dalvik-cache wipe, it´s said that after re-start an "optimizing apps" message will appear while it´s re-created that dalvik-cache (in android 6.0 MM I think that dalvik-cache does not longer exist, but an equivalent must be present); may be was this action that helped out to stabilize a couple of things into this v4.0.9 rom, and in my case the most important make permanent the selection of "WiFi Region" and don´t come back to the default rom selection that I pressume it´s "germany" because of wasser, what may be as well was the cause of frequent dropping connection in 5G Wifi. The most important now it´s all of this is fixed and my system it´s rock solid stable.

hello, in version 4.0.9 the streaming from amazon instant video is better, but not perfect
there are still stutters and when i download a video to external sd then it is not playable(extrem stuttering), only from internal SD.

It doesn't work with Kodi or forks (tested 9 versions).

Interlaced videos doesn't work with RockChip Codec. you need to disable Rockchip Codec and use mediacodec instead

What does it mean? To use software decoding? Please, explain what you assume.
Anyway, interlaced video is supported on all stock firmwares. Only on >=3 it is broken.
