I've asked GearBest for the official OEM .img file, but if they can't get it I can generate one based on the last .img release and this OTA update.

i am not sure what you mean , but i think u need "7.zip" to unzip the downloaded File .

7.zip is a Tool for Pc .

Just updated to OTA 20170801 and the boot animation and music have been removed. The label "MBOX make your life color" has been added. A new application DRM check is also added to this build. BCenter and MgmtSupport have been brought back again.. No any trace of Youtube icon in the application list.

The OTA does work throgh the Update app if you choose "Local Update" and select the M8S_PRO-ota-20170801.150811.V0321.zip

Yes it forces the VSLauncher back as the default launcher as well, which you need to root the M8S Pro and uninstall it to get rid of it.

It has also introduced the problems that I am seeing with the 5Ghz Radio droping the wifi connection randomly which was present in the 20170524 build, but was fixed in the 20170707 Build...

I'm sticking with the 20170707 for now, until Guest has time to update his Stock Nexus or Nano ROM's to be based on 20170707 or a build with a fixed 5GHz Radio...

I'm a Noobie too mate and still learning happy to help if I can...

I'm not aware of a way to downgrade as such, i.e. change the Firmware version and keep your config. (Other people please comment)

But what you can do is blow the current image and config away and install an earlier version as a clean install...
If you want to do this, have a look at #147 in this forum.

Will wait for future update and hopefully they will bring back the original logo and boot sound. I have noticed also that the box was renamed in Geekbench to VS M8S PRO. Any idea why they are rebranding?

No Idea's on the re-banding, sorry. Seems like a step backwards though to me though, as the 20170707 build fixed a bunch of stuff and the 20170801 build seems to break it all again, and brought back the buggered random apps.

I'm seriously looking at going over to the Stock or Nano Android roms that Guest created. They are clean and no extra apps on top, so as you can customise them as needed, just as Google intended

How was the Eclipse??

The eclipse was frigging amazing! I watched from the peak of a ridge in Lime, Oregon, right on the center track. The creepiest thing was watching the Moon's shadow approach through the valleys to the west. It was as ominous as an approaching hurricane, but without the clouds. Very Stephen King.

I finally got the 20170801 rom loaded. I doesn't like TWRP. Seems I had TWRP on the micro SD card I was using but Once the SD card was formatted and just the 20170801.zip only on the card it loaded fine. I looks like it is rooted. As Aspittles said it has the MBOX spinning logo but it has the standard interface. Not sure what the DRM info app that's been added. I'll be playing more with this one and compare a few parameters and apps to see what's been modified. Sure would be nice if someone making these changes could provide a documented changelog. Just saying..

First, let me introduce myself - I'm a total newb to the scene, but do have a technical background. I've managed to root my new M8S Pro (2GB/16GB) and having fun playing with it. This is the 2nd box I've ever bought, but not fiddled much with the 1st (ended up giving it away).

So what's the general consensus here? Should I based my next update on 20170707 or 20170801?

I suppose if people who've used both 1707 and 1708 build can compare and share any improvements 08 has over 07, then we could weigh the pros and cons to see which might be preferred. Newest should be better with bug fixed and improvements, but that isn't always the case...

Was your testing of the WiFi scientific enough (i.e. logs showing network failure)? How did you come to the conclusion that a particular FW version had bugged WiFi 5G?

I'm along the same thoughts as aspittles in wanting the next update based on 20170707 as it seems pretty stable and doesn't have those weird unnecessary apps installed. If 08 version proves to be a marked improvement, then Guest, you could always do another update later on


On a different matter, I was going through the APPS in the settings and saw 2 for YouTube. Thinking the smaller app was a system app and not the updated YouTube app, I uninstalled it, but now I can't add the YouTube app to the MeCool launcher screen - it also doesn't appear in the APPS screen. I can still access the app via the Apps list in settings though. Anyone know how to fix this?
