    Hi all,

I am new to the forum and i have been reading about this Mecool M8S Pro +, i read about Widewine L1 and Netflix HD. I am about to buy it, but before i buy it, can you help me with an DRM Info screenshot of its HDCP support ? Can you play Netflix's Test Patterns and see which bitrate does 720P reaches ? Does it reach 1080P ?

Sorry for the questions, i just jumped on the Mi Box too early and i got a faulty unit. I wouldnt like to have another broken one

      Hi,

I have tried to run Test Pattern Videos but they don't appear in the search in Netflix on ATV or OEM Std.Netflix.

I can see that Netflix plays at 720p (minimum) and gives DD5.1 audio on ATV ROM.
I don't think 4K will work as HDCP is Level1
4K is indicated as available in YouTube ATV App. but I can't test !

On OEM ROM you have to sideload a patched HD version of Std. Netflix apk (Netflix_v5.3.1_HD.apk)
This runs at HD quality (?720p) but only delivers Stereo

Oh, i see. Thanks, just one question, the ATV ROM that supports 720p and Dolby Digital+ 5.1 is any of the 3 available(tvSTOCK Nexus)?

The Stock Nexus and Mini Nexus are the one meant for Smartphone/Tablet that you add a TV UI Launcher ?

I have run a Test Pattern tests for Netflix's Bitrate and it shows me in my Mi Box:

        30 fps:

        720p 2350 kbps
        720p 3000 kbps
        1080p 4300 kbps
        1080p 5800 kbps

        60 fps:

        720p 2800 kbps
        720p 3600 kbps
        1080p 5160 kbps
        1080p 6960 kbps

In my Roku Stick, the 1080p Test Pattern video only shows 30 fps, reaching a max bitrate of 5800, may be that's because the Roku Stick doesnt support 1080P at 60 fps.

I used Test patterns Season 1, Episode 4 for the 30 fps test videos and Episode 7 for the 60 fps test videos.

I have already ordered the MECOOL M8S Pro +, but if someone with a Netflix subscripcion can help me with this numbers for the ATV Netflix App, i will really appreciate it.

          TV Stock = ATV

I have tried Search for Test Patterns in Netflix but it just returns series titles for me ? How do you get the Test Pattern videos ??

Doesn't my video give you the information you are looking for?? Starts at the 2 minute mark. Netflix 1080P 30 frames/sec. YouTube, 4K. Netflix plays in DD+.

            MK818B, T428, ATV 1220, CS918S, TV01, S89H, R89, ADT-1, MK808B Plus, MINIX X8-H Plus, Tronsmart Orion R68

On Android TV, you can see the current bitrate + resolution + audio track info with the Netflix app for all videos pressing CTRL + F4 with a keyboard. I found that combination of keys by pure chance a year ago on my ShieldTV (I'm still waiting the arrival of my Mecool)

Thanks, that is a handy shortcut
                Great

                So ...

                ATV ROM
                Daredevil - 1080p @ 4.22 Mbps
                DD 5.1

My ADSL is only about 4.4Mbps

You can search for the test patterns in a browser. I do it on my iPad. Click one one and it opens the Netflix app and plays the video. Then the video shows up in whatever Netflix app you're using, including the one in this box, as something you can continue watching. A search within Netflix does not show these test videos. On the Mecool the videos reach 5800 at 1920x1080p. I don't have a 4K tv, but the 4K test videos play.

Those test patterns aren't available worldwide.

Ah, that explains it - UK Netflix for me.

The Ctrl+F4 KB Shortcut should prove handy for the rest of us.

Thanks for your video, thats what i needed, it was just that other videos showing the same M8S Pro + said the HDCP was "Unprotected" and it would generate problems with Netflix.

I searched a lot in Youtube, but i find your video doesnt seem to use SEO(Tags) if you want it to be found assosiated with M8S Pro + searches you can add them and it will help us to find it easier.

My M8S Pro+ seems shipped already, i hope to receive it by mid October

This box seems to be really popular here but I'm not sure if it's because it has good ROM support etc. I will be buying this box for my parents that just want a solid box so I don't plan on using a different ROM. Is this box reliable and stable with the stock firmware? Does it have decent WiFi?

Previously I would buy the M8S Mini II but I've had too many boxes have extremely poor WiFi, to the point of not being usable at all.

If you need to use it with WiFi, you do NOT want this box......... WiFi is horrible.

For Non Tech parents you should be buying Xiaomi Mi Box - International model MDZ-16-AB because for a budget box it has:

                              - the best dual band AC WiFi
                              - stable Android TV Firmware - that is really easy to use.
                              - the best real easy to use, Android TV Wireless Voice remote on the market - even beats the NVIDIA Shield's remote
                              - an official Android TV licence device so you get Chromecasting support
                              - no stuffing around with DIY. You plug in and use.
                              - Plus it will be more reliable hardware, with higher quality components than any cheap AMLogic Android box.

Tried to read thru this thread but still unclear. Does Netflix HD (1080p) work with Magendanz latest ATV ROM?
