Official Android TV devices, Shield, Mi Box, Nexus Player etc.. use a lcd.density of 320

This ROM uses a normal Android OS lcd.density of 240

That is a 25% shrinkage in the scaling of the GUI displayed.

If you don't believe me simply count the number of Android TV App Icons that can be displayed on the home screen horizontally with this ROM vs say a Android TV - Mi Box.

There is a clear difference in GUI picture scaling.

Can you give instruction of changing this Rom's density to 320?

Also about making auto refresh rate too?

Just edit the ro.sf.lcd_density property in the build.prop, preferably setting it to one of these standard Android screen densities:

Just be aware that at 300dpi and higher, mobile (non-ATV) apps start misbehaving.

As for the refresh rate, I've never messed with that.

I was hoping that someone else could provide the tutorial, but here you go...

To install update from TWRP, type "reboot recovery" in Terminal, select Install, Select Source (where your .zip file is), and swipe to install.
To install burn package, launch USB Burning Tool, open .img file, hit Start, connect a male-to-male Type A USB cable to USB OTG port (closest to power jack) while pressing the recessed Reset button with a paperclip.

- 320 density - yes

1) Do a Full system partitions backup to a USB Stick using TWRP Recovery

2) get familiar with logging into Android using ADB on a PC / Mac by using:

adb connect ip.address.of.mecool
adb shell

3) (Magisk.zip may need to be installed using TWRP)

su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cd /system
mv build.prop build.prop.bak
wget http://wrxtasy.libreelec.tv/MECOOL/build.prop
mount -o ro,remount /system
reboot

4) At the same time if you want to "Play" with refresh rate switching in FTMC and SPMC
There are re-refresh switch bugs when skipping about video during HEVC video playback. (systemcontrol problem)
This will not be permanent once you reboot. - but can be made permanent with an Init.d App and script.

Refresh switching will not work in Kodi Krypton.
Also needed for smooth Fractional video playback - Android Settings > Playback Settings > HDMI Self-Adaptation > Enable
That setting enables AMLogic's Frame Rate Automation - Level 1

chmod 0666 /sys/class/display/mode

Now put away your Binoculars because the Android TV GUI is now 25% bigger !!

Personally I do not care about tablet Android Apps at all on an Android TV ROM.

Or you could just mount System in TWRP and copy the modified build.prop file over using the built-in File Manager.

I just edit build.prob file with es file app after flash Magisk root. I get bigger TV GUI now.
(I can adb connect too, but stuck at su command. What is password for su from adb shell?)


Anyway wrxtasy can you guide more about how to get auto refresh rate for SPMC? (Or other apps, like Plex, if possible.)

With this firmware the HDMI CEC doesn't work at all. I've tested in a 2016 Samsung TV.
 

Okay, so that's a bug with the underlying OEM firmware. We'll need to wait for a fix from Mecool or find a better foundation for the custom ROM.

When i come back to m8s pro i have an error of security (don't remember the exact error)
Ask me to format the box but when i come back to official rom i was in DRM L3
I put the new firmware img with burning tool, same problem.
How come back to L1 ?
nobody have the same problem ?

Well i think you killed your hdcp or widevine licence..... if you did the hdcp only you can burn it again(dont ask me) if it was the widevine one.. you are done no more L1 for you!
Never flash other devices roms on this L1 boxes, some of that roms change your mac and the widevine key is bound to you mac... and even if you go back to stock you are done!
But sometimes you get lucky.. 1% of the time +/-..

With this firmware the HDMI CEC doesn't work at all. I've tested in a 2016 Samsung TV.

And I've tested with a 4K Hisense TV and HDMI-CEC is mostly fine, with very minor issues.

Samsung has some of the shittiest HDMI-CEC compatibility going around due to adding extra "tweaks" to CEC on their TV's.
Virtually every TV manufacturer is the same.

HDMI-CEC control is not even a strictly adhered to standard, it is really luck if it works or not.
Unless we get access to the u-boot source code to modify (very unlikely). CEC control will simply not work with some people's TV's.

I can't even play 1080p videos. Had to change the video config to 720p. Is this normal?

What was your previous ROM? In Nougat they've deprecated the Amlogic codec, which has caused problems with quite a few apps relying on its hardware acceleration.

I received the box last monday, it was updated ( had the last firmware) at the beguinning it worked, but now stoped work... need to reinstall it?

Well, if you want to go back to the stock ROM, you'll need to flash this or one of the previous OTA updates (20170629.183809.V0321 or 20170715.093046.V0321). You can flash the updates in TWRP, but I recommend using the .img file and USB Burning Tool. (See OP for instructions.)
