Started trying out Amlogic Tool - Auto Refresh rate function on the Plus box and now I am testing it on the L box.

Tried with ATV V06xx and no wonder my L has been running hot - 60fps 4K file was running the CPU at full speed effectively.
Much more load than the + box ?? Some tearing and stuttering
Auto 24p was pretty poor and stuttery running well below 24fps but a bit less stress on the CPU.

Updated to ATV V09xx and less load on the CPU and managing 60fps OK
Auto 24p smoother but still not 24fps and a bit jerky at times even though CPU not maxing out and heating slightly more slowly ...

The L seems to work harder than the + even though it has 8 cores to play about with.

I am thinking the L is not worth the extra money unless you need Bluetooth or ??

The + seems to be performing better at least in these quick rudimentary tests

Thanks for your observations, I am using the "L" almost exclusively, because I can use my Xiaomi Mi Bluetooth remote. That remote with Magendanz's ATV ROM is almost perfection using it as a media player.

Side note, fan is sitting on my desk waiting for my decision to install it. But as you said in another thread, the ambient temperature makes a huge difference. My temp reading is always displayed at the top of the screen (I don't even notice it anymore), and when I remember to look at it, it never goes over 175F/80C, much better than when it was running over 200F/93C. Room temp is running around 72F, I think a few months ago, the room temp was around 76F.

Kodi is the only media player that causes my temp to rise, other media player apps, like Emby, do not have this issue.

Before I try to flash this rom, I would like a confirmation that I am doing all the necessary steps.

So at the moment I am using ATV rom from Superceleron but for some reason this rom freezes my box all the time ( I changed resolution from 4k 60hz to 1080p 60Hz, that helped a little bit, now it doesn't happen so offently but still happens at least 3,4 times per day)

First I thought I can just download OTA from this rom, and use update app on the box, but clarkss12 told me I shoud use "Burncardmaker" method .

Because I never use something like that and this box doesn't have reset button, I will write the steps what I am planning to do:

          1. Download burn package from the first page and download Amlogic Burn_Card_Maker v2.0.2.

          2. Follow the instruction from https://www.chinagadgetsreviews.com/...er-v2-0-2.html to create bootable micro sd (Question : Does it have to be micro sd or can I use usb also?)

          3. Put micro sd in my box then go to terminal and write reboot update.

          4. Now update shoud happen automatically and when it finishes, box will reboot and then I have to remove sd card and wait for few min and this rom should boot and everything should work normally

I know that maybe I am boring with all the questions but I just want to be sure that I won't brick my device

Once again thank you all for your help

That procedure should work without issues. Not sure about using a USB thumb drive, never tried it. One time, I changed from Superceleron's ROM to Magenadanz's ROM, after I did a "reboot update" from a terminal window, my box just sat there with a black screen for about 20 minutes. I freaked out, thinking I just killed another "L" box, but I pulled the power plug, and when I plugged it back in, the update began.

Second time I did the update, it worked without any issues, so if you get the black screen for about 20 minutes, don't get scared, just pull the power plug.

              Changelog (20180109):
              • Updated to latest M8S Pro L OEM firmware (20171216.102705.V0928)
              • Underlying OEM firmware fixed wake from sleep...but it's taking about 28 seconds. It should only take 2-3 seconds.
              • Updated to TWRP Recovery 3.2.1-0 based on latest OEM kernel.
              • Latest build from Open GApps (20180109)
              Known Bugs:
              • Google Cast service works from Chrome browser, but apparently requires Google license to work from Android apps.

So I'm not exactly a newbie to these Chinese boxes but wanted to delve back in with a DRM-Certified box. I've been looking into buying this box and flash using this ROM. How stable is this ROM for everyday use? If it's less bother, I'd spend the extra and get the MiBox.

Well, it's pretty much identical to the Nexus Player and Mi Box with the custom Nexus ROM. The downside is the lack of Google Cast license (which allows it only to work from the Chrome browser) and overheating issues (which I've yet to experience). Prior to this last release, I would have included the reboot on wake from sleep, but that's now mostly resolved.

On the plus side, it's got a faster IoC with twice as many cores, microSDXC storage and Ethernet. I also like the fact that you've got an unlocked bootloader, so you can try out different custom ROMs and tweak settings. That's not really an option on a Mi Box.

Hi Magendanz do you know why i cant no longer flash roms with sdcard i have try to flash this latest rom from you and if i boot from sd all i get is green android apears for one secund with messege upgrade... And then i lose hdmi singnal and box gets bricked and i have to use usb burn tool to unbrick-it with that same .img file and also do you think that we can get casting working without licence if not in public rom but in private home use

Is anyone else amazed at how good Videstrong are at providing updates - lots of updates ?
Fixes, real AndroidTV launchers in OEM FW (Leanback) and even updating Old HW to L1Widevine (new stock of Pro)
                  etc.

Old HW to L1. Does that mean Pro (non plus) boxes are getting L1 treatment?

On another note, how likely is this box to get Android TV 8.0?

Frustrating that it's in the Google Play Store for Android TV now, but no one can download it. Hopefully soon!

Good morning everyone with tv app repo from the play store you add them. I did not understand if you can delete them without uninstalling, I still do not think so. Thank you so much for your work Guest

Does someone experience freezes when playing 4k 60fps video clips from Youtube ? 4K 30fps working very well, but 60fps freezes after a minute or so.

I asking myself is it a problem with network bitrate (i think 50 mbps or even higher) or is it a problem with unit heating on that high SOC usage materials ?
Dont think so that net is faulty, cause i have 200 mbps link, eventually problem with lan port bandwidth.
