[ROM] Mecool M8S Pro L TVStock Nexus ROM (Android TV 7.1)

Can anyone recommend other good ROM for the LQ variant of this box? Random shutdowns plus "No signal" issue (that requires me to unplug device from power and plug it back in) are killing me. Maybe I should just revert back to stock or downgrade to the previous version of this rom? What do you think?

UPDATE: 4 days ago GeekBuying posted an information about new firmware version but with date 2018-03-16 - is this something new?

sounds like this issue is the overheating issue, the simplest solution is placing the box Sideways, so that the hot air can escape and reduce that overheating issue causing the 'no signals'

It has always been placed sideways behind the TV so either it's not enough or it's not it

I updated yesterday was installed without issue. Not saying this to be a dick more to let you know that someone else has took this update without issue and also to say I see no difference it's not a full OS upgrade still on android 7.1.2 Kernel is now 3.14.29.Fri 3ed Aug 17.39.51 CST 2018 Build M8S PRO L. userdebug 7.1.2 NHG47L 20180803.173707.V0213

Hello,

I'm a new one here. First of all, thank you very much for the bunch of info, works you are doing here it's impressive.

I would like to install the rom on my Mecool M8S Pro L (LB) box via the OTA. However, few days ago, to have mycanal application work, I had to rename the system "su" file to mislead the application (this one does not work on root device). The problem now is that my device is no longer rooted (at least it's not recognized as such) because I cannot rename the su.old file to su. Stupid me...

In short, can I install the TVStock Nexus ROM (via OTA) in my situation ? Will it root my device back ?

Otherwise, is there a way to rename the system file without being rooted ?

Last question, Is there a way to have TWRP via OTA ?

Unfortunately you can't install any custom rom on the (LB) version as the WiFi and Bluetooth will stop working. I'm pretty sure you do need to be rooted to rename a system file. With TWRP you download the "twrp.q20x-3.2.1-0_2.img" as its only one that works with the (LB) version as far as I know and then you can copy it onto an SD card or flash drive and install via recovery mode. You could then install Magisk which would root your device. Its the safest way to do it and comes with a nice manager app.

Thanks very much for your feedback !! bad news to hear the LB version is not compatible . BTW, what is the difference between LB and the other versions ? Is there any chance that the custom rom be compatible in a near future ?

About TWRP, that means I cannot install the img via OTA, I have to go through the recovery mode, that is fiddling with the reset button that is not there ?

LB is the latest version which has new better WiFi and Bluetooth built into it so the custom ROMs won't work cause they were made for the older LQ version. As far as I know the developers aren't working on anything at the moment for it. Yes I'm nearly certain you have to go through recovery mode to do it. I haven't heard or seen it being done through ota. Some people open the box to reach the reset button.

On my LB box, plugging in the power at the back and immediately, repeatedly, pressing the three bar button on the remote takes you into recovery (be sure it's pointing it right at the box's front)

It says error Status 7 - has unexpected Contents on /dev/block/boot error in @/cache/recovery/block.map

I tried to fix the issue doing factory reset, cleaned cache partition, also used USB burning tool to load the factory image M8S_PRO_L-NHG47L-20180417.150752.V0213.img that I downloaded from freaktab, but no matter what I do I still get the same error when trying to do this latest update (Optimize the user experience)

Do you or anyone have any idea what's going on?

I think the first question should be what does this update actually do? does anybody know?is it worth the bother?this company is really annoying in that it fails to communicate with users and keeps us second guessing all the time.

I think I know what the update does. It’s the update to fix the problem from Netflix HD app from opening (error message NW-6-404). It probably has the update so people don’t need to use BurnKeyTool fix.
I don’t need to fix Netflix problem because I already applyed this fix, but I’m just annoyed that I’m not able to use OTA.

Sounds plausible.why did they not do that in the first place instead of causing more grief!
