Hi, new to the forum... have some questions. First some back story.

Been using an old 1GB mxq 4.4 kitkat android box for about two weeks now. Inherited it from a friend.

I have a 55" 4k HDR tv, and for a while I have had my laptop hooked up to it and that served as a conduit of all my content, I pretty much prefer to download all my movies and shows and stream live sports matches. The laptop sucked at playing anything above 1080p and it was a nightmare finding streams for live tv so getting an android TV box was actually a relief. And that also meant I had the laptop tethered to my TV all the time.

However, for what I use the Tv box for, web browsing, youtube and movies and shows..... my experience so far has also been horrible. I am typing this message on chrome on the Tv box and every app I open takes a few seconds to load and I literally can't play any youtube video in anything above 480o on it without it giving issues.

So i decided to upgrade. Ordered a Mecool M8s Prol L and a 120mm usb fan which should be arriving tomorrow thanks to this forum. Now my questions.

1. how much faster would my all round usage experience be going form that 1Gb box to this one?

2. 99% of all my web browsing would be done on the box and with my tv (I have a wireless mouse with trackpad) can anyone tell me how the browsing experience is? Currently I use chrome and lets just say I hate opening new tabs and don't look forward to browsing. Also, will the the app scale better with this box being a 4K box or will the tabs and address bar still take up almost 1/8th of my screen (even when requesting a desktop site).

3. I plan on just placing the box on top the USB fan, would that be sufficient to avoid its cooling issues or would I need to open it up and do something more invasive?

4. I gather the stock rom is rooted, what makes this ROM better when we could also just uninstall all the apps we don't want from the stock ROM?

I heard mecool pro l box could output 4k@60Hz. I think you are able to test that. Would be great to share your result with us here.

Lol..... Its kinda shocking no one has detailed how the box operates outside things like kodi and youtube......

fair enough though, I am just waiting for the email so I can go pick it up today. Once a put a few days into it I will be sure to give a detailed user review of the stock rom for all the things I listed and then some.

Other opinions? can you point me in the direction of said opinions?

Looking at youtube and google all I see are benchmark scores which means **** all to anyone in real world use or them showing you how it can do this or that. But the real things people do with these things aren't being addressed. How does it manage being connected to an external HDD and constantly running a torrent client like flud? What happens when you open the browser and have like 7 tabs open at any giving time? Does it stutter randomly when switching apps or going back to the home screen? Does it reload every recent app you open whenever you go back to it? Are there certain apps that once using them it cripples it performance..........etc.

I personally feel those are real world scenarios and I can't for the life of me see anywhere that they are being addressed. Instead we get benchmarks and videos that seem hell bent on going to the settings and showing us its running android 7 and scrolling aimlessly up and down the settings options and homes sreen interface.

I've always been a sucker for flashing devices, so at the very least I will be installing this ROM straight outta the box. Considering using the update method. Hopefully that goes without any issues. Then I will post my usage findings.

Is it normal that modifying the slightest thing on the build.prop for the stock rom brings the device to a bootloop? i can't even change ro.product.model and ro.product.brand that are usually the safest values to edit!
Has someone tryed any build.prop tweak for compatibility with this TV box?

I would run your box for awhile before modding it.

here is my opinion.dont install any custom roms on your new box until you have read all the posts on this forum!otherwise you will regret doing so.

Hello! Please, if you can count on opinions on the subject, thank you in advance. Would it be nice to replace the installed wifi antenna of the M8S PRO L with another, based on the video below? My TV box is distant about 5 meters from the modem of the operator and is unable to receive the signal

Thanks for the adviec, but don't worry about it... I'm pretty active on xda and I am the sort that would buy a Oneplus 6 and falsh it before I even set it up for the first time. I kinda know my way around these things as long as the instructions in the OP are clear. Which in this case they are.

i am fixing to go the update.zip route, which from my understanding is a signed zip so would work from within the stock ROM's update app. Format usb to fat32, dump update zip file onto the root directory of said drive, plug said drive into box, find it in the update app, select to wipe date... confirm and then profit. Doesn't sound complicated to me.... and if something goes wrong I am guessing there will be solutions within this thread too.

Don't wanna use the stock rom for a while only to flash this rom anyways eventually then go about reconfiguring everything all over again.

Well that sucks.... after reading through the entire thread I see there are quite a few issues I may run into. Guess I should be praying I don't get one of those mixed up boxes or an LB version or the box.

You can use an external Hdd + Flud (I did that on my Mxq as well) and it works great. You need to use a USB hub to power the Hdd, and because of Android tv limitations, Flud can only write in its own folder it automatically creates on the external drive (this won't happen if you manage to install the custom Rom from this thread, where these limitations are overridden).
Browsing works ok, it can manage 4/5 tabs open without any issues but bear in mind that the user agent is set to Android and even when you switch it to desktop some sites will always be showed as in mobile mode.
