Better don't try to remove stoсл heatsink, you will probably damage cpu, with a guarantee of 99%. This is an overkill, here are image from a russian guy on 4pda forum, he just installed a copper plate:

Try to install it without glue if you are scared of such methid , just with termopaste and see how it works for you.

It can be removed with no side effects, there are videos on this forum that explain how to. A bigger passive heatsink and a hole on the top only decrease the temperature of -10 C though. To apply the heatsink to the Cpu I only used the 3M tape provided with said heatsink, maybe a thermal pad or special glue would have given a better outcome.

i have removed heatsink on two mecool boxes.i used a metal bracket that fitted between the fins and carefully twisted forward and back until the movement was enough to break free the heatsink from the glue.patience is the key and dont be tempted to use too much force as that would cause damage.the box itself has open vents underneath and around the sides.so a fan sitting underneath the box is enough to keep the cpu temp. at an acceptable level.i think cutting out squares and drilling holes is a bit ott. but if thats what you want to do thats down to personal choice.a lot of android boxes have no vents at all and i can understand doing that sort of thing is justified.for those not too ambitious a simple laptop cooling pad under the mecool box will keep the box cool enough.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooling-HAV...+laptop+cooler.it can be powered by the box and gives additional usb inputs.

Yes I've uninstalled the updates on stock rom and YouTube runs okay at 1080p but at 4k it pays good for 30 seconds then the audio goes out of sink. Think I'll flash this rom after I've tested the stock to the max still only had it for 1 day got a raspberry pi fan arriving tomorrow so I'll see how it goes after I've modded the heat issue going to build my own lid to better accommodate the pi fan and give the box a custom shell to better reflect the custom nature of the hole box

It would be awesome if we could get at least one more update for this box that would fix the YouTube issues once and for all. Also had to uninstall YT updates. Other minor wish would be to prevent random restarts but it's not as annoying as the faulty YouTube...

Are you sure the YT problem is only for this box? I don't have other boxes so I cannot assure that.

After using a fan from an old desktop psu I took the USB from an old USB mouse cut the wire joined the two together plugged it into the Android box and Boom temperature sorted YouTube 4K plays perfect now to deside if I should flash this version of android tv OS without sounding critical what are the differences between the stock OS and the nexus rom I'm just trying to decide if I should do it thanks

I received my Box Mecool M8S PRO L 3GB RAM + 32GB on 07/03/18, bought on 05/27/18 at Gearbest, by indication I just came to know the FreakTab and I have been following this forum, the model I received is LB , as I found myself facing the same problems of warming-up of YT, Netflix and other applications, I was already willing to face the task of putting a cooler in the casing when I decided to test a mini usb-powered hinged table fan, and it is working a lot well, I turned the box upside down (nowso2k18, Grate!) and positioned the mini fan on the box, hopefully that serves the suggestion, I had a very cheap cost USD $ 6.00 (value already converted in my country).

I just added a little spared button on the side for fast reboot into recovery,
if something goes wrong playing with it i can stop unscrewing the top to reach the reset pins, since i want to start playing a little with the build.prop, also if i doubt i'll manage to go somewhere with application support, i really can't stand the fact that there's no way for me to play video on Amazon Prime! I pay that sh!t

Hi, new to the forum... have some questions. First some back story.

Been using an old 1GB mxq 4.4 kitkat android box for about two weeks now. Inherited it from a friend.

I have a 55" 4k HDR tv, and for a while I have had my laptop hooked up to it and that served as a conduit of all my content, I pretty much prefer to download all my movies and shows and stream live sports matches. The laptop sucked at playing anything above 1080p and it was a nightmare finding streams for live tv so getting an android TV box was actually a relief. And that also meant I had the laptop tethered to my TV all the time.

However, for what I use the Tv box for, web browsing, youtube and movies and shows..... my experience so far has also been horrible. I am typing this message on chrome on the Tv box and every app I open takes a few seconds to load and I literally can't play any youtube video in anything above 480o on it without it giving issues.

So i decided to upgrade. Ordered a Mecool M8s Prol L and a 120mm usb fan which should be arriving tomorrow thanks to this forum. Now my questions.

1. how much faster would my all round usage experience be going form that 1Gb box to this one?

2. 99% of all my web browsing would be done on the box and with my tv (I have a wireless mouse with trackpad) can anyone tell me how the browsing experience is? Currently I use chrome and lets just say I hate opening new tabs and don't look forward to browsing. Also, will the the app scale better with this box being a 4K box or will the tabs and address bar still take up almost 1/8th of my screen (even when requesting a desktop site).

3. I plan on just placing the box on top the USB fan, would that be sufficient to avoid its cooling issues or would I need to open it up and do something more invasive?

4. I gather the stock rom is rooted, what makes this ROM better when we could also just uninstall all the apps we don't want from the stock ROM?
