are these boxes still recommended to purchase new? - i'd like something with Widevine DRM but after reading through this forum regarding LQ and LB versions, im unsure if its clever to buy one now? any alternative other than the expensive shield or mibox of course as i'd like the support of Magendanz

you can get mecool m8s pro with widevine l1 and it is supported by Magendanz.l can confirm that widevine L1 is retained and Netflix hd works.

The only caveat is that my M8S PRO doesn't have Widevine L1, and so I'm unable to test Netflix or YouTube TV. As long as I haven't done something to break it, however, you should be fine.

Does this firmware support NTFS and exFat out of the box for external hdds and usb/sd cards or do I need an app to make it work like android phones?
Also, how do I know which Pro L model do I have? I bought it around 8 months and its the one without the voice remote.

I can't tell about exfat, but it supports writing on an external Ntfs hdd.

Can I flash this ROM over stock without having to wipe data and etc?

Yes, incremental upgrades from the previous TVStock Nexus release should be fine. No need to wipe data.

After modifying my cooling I got rid of the "No Signal" issue after couple hours, however even with latest rom from Guest the issue with self shutdown is still there. I noticed that it always happens when you rapidly push buttons on the remote ie. when you are quickly jumping through the letters on the screen keyboard suddenly "Shutdown..." popup appears and box turns off itself in next couple of seconds.

Very strange. I haven't had the "No Signal" issue once since I upgraded to this latest ROM, but I'm using a universal Bluetooth remote.

Hello friend, my M8S PRO L lost WIFI and Bluetooth after updating the wrong firmware, but I can't go back. I can't brush the firmware after twrp, prompt error 7. I can't boot up after "four clear", only logo, and can't enter TwRP again. What should I do? I don't know how to burn. img, USB interface has no identification device, only Do you need micro SD? I need your help.

There's always such possibility, however I'm using a stock remote that comes with M8S Pro L.

The "No signal" issue was clearly directly connected to the overheating. After modifying cooling of my device and mounting a fan, I have no longer see it, so that's solved. The only issue that I have right now is (as mentioned above) random shutting down. It happens when jumping quickly through the letters or sometimes when jumping through the app icons in the launcher.

You can see at the end of the video that after jumping through some letters, suddenly the "Turning off" box appears and box shutdowns itself after couple of seconds. Sometimes you need to jump many times, sometimes just couple letters or icons in the launcher are enough.

I do recall that happening, but don't remember the details, but as I recall it was due to the included IR remote. Not sure there was a cure.

You are right! I tried my KIII remote and it works fine! Arghhh, I really like that included remote, but I guess there's no option but to get rid of it then I have a Mibox BT remote but the M8S Pro L BT range is too weak for me to use it plus it looks like commands from that remote are "locking" and repeating themselves constantly.

Guest it looks like the remote sends the shutdown signal to the Android, but it respects whatever is set as PowerKey Definition setting. If the setting is set to Power Off - it powers off, if the setting is set to "Sleep now", it puts the device to sleep. So maybe you could add option "None" or "Disable" for the PowerKey configuration and this could resolve this issue?

I don't use those remotes (I have 4 of them). I have Bluetooth remotes and some 2.4gh remotes with dongles.

My wife has forbidden me from purchasing more TV boxes, since I have dozens already littering my office floor. So, you won't be seeing LB releases of this custom ROM unless you can convince GearBest or GeekBuying to send me one.

Isn't there a way we can help you without you having the physical device?

just a suggestion for all the LB owners out there including me. if we was to club together we could get a box for Magendanz so we can get some decent firmwere for our boxes Im willing to contribute as much as the next man. but am i alone?? please let me know your thoughts .Dont know how we would go about it?.
