The problem with that link is it shows the cheapest seller at the time unless you click on "1x new from price".

At the moment that is showing safer.hk but yesterday it was different as I have bought 3 off the same link recently.

I never bought off safer.hk as they have terrible feedback so I bought them off Boriyaun for a few quid more.

All the sellers are also selling slightly different models. Even if you buy off the same seller at different times you can get different ones.

The first one I got was a K-R42, the second one I got was a T-R42 revision 1 and the latest one is a T-R42 revision 2 so you are none the wiser really.

When I got mine I tried flashing K-R42 firmware rev 1 on it first and that gave me a working rom but no wifi. Same with rev 2. Then I flashed T-R42 firmware and that worked correctly.

The fact that you are saying you are not even getting video output sounds like you have a T-R42 revision 2.

Check out the posts here. http://www.freaktab.com/forumdisplay...T-R42-CX919-II

I did read somewhere that if you look at the back of it and it the code starts with BX it is a T-R42 rev 1 and if it starts with TR then it is a T-R42 rev 2. Not sure how accurate this is tho.

Hi. Bought it from take now. All the wasser firmwares including T r42, get stuck on boot logo. And revision 2 firmwares give no video. I wonder if I flash in correct order. I put device in the flash mode. With the rockchip batch tool flash firmware, then device reboots in to cwm, then I get stuck on the boot logo.

I had the same issue. You can go to sound settings while playing the video and adjust make the audio delay or be ahead

I had one of these sent to me in amongst a few k-r42 v2.1 i bought on ****. Flashed them all with wassers rom and only found out it was different when i was testing them all.

I've tried all the k-r and t-r roms and they all fail on the splash screen. I have noticed some on screen corruption, so maybe the HDMI output module is different.

After a bit of digging around, this is the device http://www.szzxsd.com/31.html.

I've emailed the manufacturer to see about getting a copy of the stock firmware. In the meantime, can anyone help get this back up and running. I've got hi-res images of the PCB and should be able to make out the part numbers of all the components on the board.

Another frankendroid booting here (I had created my own monster just before I saw your post, but i didn't have the kernel patched like yours!)
                Will report back...

It booted, though reported an error. Wired ethernet doesn't seem to work for me, and now on reboot it seem to be stuck at the boot animation. This is a bit odd as my chinese cross frankenfirmware had no problems with ethernet (that I could tell)...

I guess its not compatibale with your box ,
                    For "ex-r-wagon" it worked great.

Try the wasser New/Old and see which one is for you.

Same here. Boots up with system not responding error. Mine does boot up again on reboot though, but the screen blanks out every few seconds. haven't tried wifi or ethernet yet.

Edit: Found a factory image that seems to work. Details are on gedas thread about about this box (ZXSD-005) http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...possible-t-r42

Hi - I have a factory image that works fine - I emailed the factory who sent me a link right over. Thing is, I really wanted to get a stable version of xbmc working with optical passthrough and smooth video. In fact that why I bought this specific box. Very frustrating that there seems to be quite a lot of different boxes being badged with the same model!!

You're right - I got the system not responding error, then it loaded with 'safe mode' written bottom left. After a reboot it just gets stuck at the boot loader. I don't think I've got the same box as on that other thread (ZXSD-005) as there's no bluetooth on mine, and different ID numbers on the circuit. I think what I'm going to do now is start doing as much diagnostics on the hardware to work out what's in it and therefore what's likely to boot...

                        Thanks,
                        Matt

WAY too many of them. I bought 5 kr42s' from the same seller at the same time.. Got 4 v2.1 boards and 1 of these 005s'. All of them were in identical packaging. Thats how i soft-bricked the 005.. No way to tell it was different, until i opened it and saw it doesn't have the metal plate on the inside top of the case like most of the other k-r42 type boxes that i've seen.

I took my K-R42 apart yesterday and noticed the metal plate screwed to the lid. I'm not sure if it actually makes contact with the Chip heat sink. If not, I am thinking of experimenting with those thermal pads to bridge the gap. This is a great feature that the manufacture added to help dissipate the heat. Hopefully the ZXSD ZX005 V02 board from 2013-08-25 without the plate is not the new standard.

                            My board is TN-BX09_V2.1 from 2013-05-31 ... 1340

Not sure if it does touch or not. But i dont think it really does help with heat. i was going to put a small northbridge heatsink and fan onto mine a while back, but space is pretty tight inside. i did notice that the plate is held on with sticky tape, and at the price of these i doubt they used thermal tape. aside from that, the 2 parts that make up the top of the case are pretty thick, about 4 or 5 mm combined.

Instead, I drilled a few vent holes on mine to help cooling and put a few of those sticky furniture pads on the bottom at the back to lift it up and try to get a bit of a convection current going which has reduced the temps a bit, it still gets warm, but not hot like it used to.

edit: vents do look better without a camera flash bouncing off the countersinking.

WOW! Nice drill work! That definitely took some effort to get the holes perfectly spaced and straight.

Very good idea to use the sticky furniture pads on the bottom to raise it up a bit for ventilation.

I just made a feeler gauge out of a thin strip of paper and fished it through the SD card slot and closed the lid. With normal writing paper (.1mm - .004") there is no drag, meaning the heat sink is NOT making contact with the metal plate. I then made another gauge with thicker card stock (.4mm - .02"). There was a lot of drag. I was not able to easily pull the paper and make it slide between the plate and heat sink.

I'm going to experiment with the 1mm heat transfer pads to close the gap and see if it helps with heat dissipation. I really wish the 3188 had an internal temperature sensor.
