I opened up the device and see it is a V2 board so from what I read I need to load the T-R42 new kernel. I've tried the new and old kernels and it gives me the same problem that it will not allow me to turn on wifi.
If I flash back to the factory firmware I got from the seller the wifi will turn on no problem and it works again.
Am I missing something with the 1.2.4 firmware to get the wifi to turn on??
I had to reflash stock firmware first, and then, i tried 1.2.4 with T-R42 old (no wifi or bt), and then, only T-R42 new kernel, and wifi is "working" now (if you can call this working), and there is no bluetooth.

Is your wifi chip a Realtek 8723AS? Mine is, and my board is B351_V2.0 with Bluetooth, and seller said it is EKB311B, but seller's firmware did not work (it has a reference to some AP6210 chip in the name of firmware file).

        Wifi bug

I've been reading Finless' thread about his MK908 ROM and saw this:

I will definitely try a USB cord to move mouse receiver away from the box.
Now i recall - i really experienced mouse jerkiness from time to time - maybe it was interference with Wifi!

          rk3188_box_szy_x6

          My unit is the rk3188_box_szy_x6
I have tried to upgrade the firmware but with every one that i have tried the WIFI and BT are disabled.
Could someone please point me towards the most recent working version/s or options.

Any rom/kernal with HDMI audio passthrough would be nice if available!

Sorry if there is a really obvious sticky for this somewhere, i'm missing it when looking

          rk3188_box_szy_x6
          v1_0 131024 which firmware

            Board v3.5 compatible?

            Hi guys,

I'm pretty new here and was lurching to get a new fw for my T-R42.
I read about the different board versions so I checked mine out.
But that seems to be V3.5 with a realtek 8723AS chip.
Should this fw also work on this board?
Or might I get myself into troubles?
            My guess is the latter
If any details are wanted let me know although there's not really much
I can tell you brand-less box not even a manufacturers name.
            bought it in the Netherlands.

Well actually I bought it as an MK888 K-R42 with BT.
The seller was convinced it was an K-R42 and not an T-R42.

                So go figure.......
Or is it me who has to go stand in the corner and shame?

                  Fyk's sake, another board version...

                  BTW, maybe an important information...

As you can see, they have changed the location of Wifi/BT chip install - they moved it to the opposite side, away from side USB port. I have found an idea here on forum in Finless 1.6a ROM thread, that Wifi/BT may interfere with a wireless mouse plugged into side USB port!

Indeed, they are just a couple cm away one from another and no shielding is provided by box case!

I do have a wireless iPazzport keyboard/mouse and i did experience problems with wifi and mouse lags and wifi speed drops until yesterday, when i have used a quality USB extension cord so that my wireless mouse receiver is now 0.5m away from the box. Yesterday my Wifi was smooth and even HD Youtube played without lag!

I think it is worth testing this idea thoroughly!

                    Hi doperst,

I'm very sorry to disappoint you but the wifi of this box is terrible.
Within 5 meter from a router and still not consistent.

But anybody any thoughts about it?
Should it work with the firmware provided here?
Because surely I don't have a stock firmware to restore it to.
Or is there a method to create an image from the firmware of the machine
so somebody who's interested can fiddle with the fw.

I'm willing to try and extract the firmware, but be aware, I'm new to Android.
More from the batch scripting in DOS era

                    Grtz. John J.

Wifi, BT, and LAN all not working with 1.2.4 (t-r42-new) on a box I bought two weeks ago from Amazon:

In Settings the wifi and BT switches revert back to OFF after about 5 seconds, and when you try to switch on LAN Settings crashes to the home screen.

It's frustrating because the rom's great apart from that.

How do you open the box to find out what model you've got? I don't see any obvious way to get into it.

You have to remove the four bottom rubber caps , after they can be put back, the screws are below.

Hi Im new to working with these android boxes. I installed the antutu app and I scored over 18000 on a new box. How much of a performance boost can I expect from Custom Rom. The odd time my box become funky but all I have to do is reboot.

If I run into trouble with the new flash is there a way or me to go back to what I had before (im pretty sure Im going to try the custom rom anyways).

Forget about gaining extra Antutu points! Custom ROMs are about less bugs and more features, although there are overclocked cores here about available to try out.
RK3188 scores already good enough, for a chinese SoC! It leaves behind almost everything from China, except recent 8-core MTK chips. And, what's more important, Antutu scores have nothing to do with the main goal of a TV-Box: HD and online HD video playback.

So far, i can confirm that isolating wireless mouse/keyboard transmitter from the Wifi/BT transmitter with an extension cord helps obtaining wifi stability and speed.
It is no cisco or lucent thing, ofcourse, and Wifi signal is weak, but i have stable 130-150Mbit connection with my router, 2.5-3 meters away, and, since i have used a USB extension cord for my wireless keyboard, i've been having decent playback of SD and HD videos from both my UPnP server and Youtube. What's more, my T-R42 is not losing connection with my UPnP server. I really really think (and hope) that using USB extension fixed radio interference problems between 2.4GHz keyboard and Wifi! BTW, some people reported that selecting different Wifi channels helped someone. This only adds to interference theory!
