Minix Neo X7 - Finless 1.8 ROM

I'm no expert but I don't think this Rom is compatible with the mini?

I know I had problems when I loaded a ROM for the Mini on my normal Minix X7

When I flash ROM, everything runs good until INF0: start test device. I get the following errors:

ERROR: Test device failed
ERROR: Run failed

What am I doing wrong here??

I got a MINIX X7 16GB / 2GB with external ariel - so definetly not the MINI - received it yesterday and started flashing roms - and although I can get all of them to work - I cannot get the 8gb parameter file to work - Finless 1.8 with 4gb / hardware Guru's / Wassers 2gb / justXBMC_v1.1.1_x7 no issues and Quickshot V2 all work - but I am really trying to get my MINIX to have an 8*8 parameter setting.

When I try Finless 1.8 with RKAndroidTool V1.37 and change the parameter to parameter8, the flash seems to go all ok - but all I win is a black screen output, no boot sequence nothing. It does go through the initial formatting screen - but nothing after that.
Same with 10gb parameter set?

Re-flash with the 4gb parameter and it all works again.

Just read through this thread and checked my box - mine is the Minix X7 216A model, I am thinking they have changed something - oh crap
I did not take a CWM of the original firmware - just jumped in with my eyes wide shut.

Anybody got any ideas?

After flashing the 4gb parameter file, go into settings>storage.
The top should say 3.69gb or so and NAND flash should say about 10gb. If it does not say that then you do not have 16gb.

Check that first.

This as they say is not my first rodeo - I definelty have the 16gb model - and yes when I flash any with the 4gb parameter - then yes it shows the values as you show them above.

My best guess BOB is they changed something.

It doesn't work that way the parameter file simply partitions NAND.
However you do have to make sure you have the right loader.
You by chance didn't flash KitKat before did you?
If so you may have to go into MASK ROM mode to force the old loader.

I only got this yesterday - so let me clarify - went straight from stock to
Guru_X7_1080p_preloaded_04aR1_malipatch_public
Loaded with no issues at all.

Thought great so I then tried QuickShot_V2 then your 1.8 all these worked out the box and still do - Erase Nand etc, none are kitkat, that I think I have tried, simply speaking I know the dangers and decided not to try it, so tried Just XBMC etc and like I said I can flash them all back with a 4gb parameter file in place and they all work, change it to 8 and all I win is the initial MINIX logo - the formating screen - then re-start and then nothing.

So if the bootloader was screwed then when I put back on another rom with a 4gb partition wouldn't that also screw up and not load?
I actually didn't look at what the stock rom was, it may have been kitkat for all I know.

The loader describes the different NAND chips that can be used and their blocking type. e.g. 512, 1024, 4096, 1 chip or 2, etc. So at 8GB partition it may be not spanning the chips properly due to a old loader. As new NAND chips come out and get supported by RK, RK always comes out with a new loader version to handle that.

I doubt your box came with KitKat! So if you never tried it then you dont have a 2.xx loader.

That latest loader I have seen from RK for 4.2.2 JB is 1.24

definetly 1.24 and the count is 4000 something (think it is 3 zeroes) etc - I have done this kind of thing a million times on my MK809ii's and CX-921's - and been doing this kind of thing for over a year - I am one of those who learns by mistake then I go and investigate my mistake. I can grasp some of what your trying to tell me, but don't have enough specialist understanding to do anything about it myself. I just knew I should have put CWM on first and taken a backup.

Thanks for your help Bob - I know you don't have enough info (at least I don't think you do - to make a trully effective diagnosis. My intention was to warn others - and hopefully someone could U/L 216A rom before they made the same mistake I have.

Lets see what NAND chips you have.

Go download this tool

This is a new RK flash tool and will give all kinds of usefull information.
Put the X7 in flash mode and then run this tool

Now go to Advanced Function tab
Press the Read Flash ID button and write what it says down.

Now press the Read Flash Info button and write that down.

This will tell us if you have some different NAND.

Same as mine. Not sure why your having a problem. I just tested and flashed my 1.8 ROM with 8gb file and it works. First boot does take a lot longer because of that change in size so make sure your giving it time.

Other than that, only thing I can think of is you have a bad NAND memory area. Android should take care of that but maybe early in boot it cant handle that and mark off the area. Just guessing.

Oh well - I guess I will just have to live with it - if your lost for ideas then I can only think that my X7 is the issue. One last thing - do you think trying 1.2 loader is worth a try or a bad idea?
