Minix Neo X7 - Finless 1.8 ROM

Well, since I hadn't heard from anyone about my last post, I decided to go ahead and flash my X7 anyway to get the feel for doing that, and to play around with it while I awaited a response. The flash went fine, and I'm up and running. For now at least, I have chosen the "parameter8" parameter file, and the middle of the road (overclocking-wise) 1080-1800-798-720 kernel.

Looking at the About Device, I see it says the Kernel version is "finless@oc-kernel-1080 #389", however, when I look at the Screen HDMI Mode settings, I only see options of "1280x720p-60" and "720x480p-60"! I have it connected up with a 1080p computer monitor at the moment, so I don't know why I don't see the 1080p options. Could it have anything to do with my monitor not having an HDMI port, so I used an HDMI-to-DVI adapter on the X7 end to a DVI cable connected to the monitor? Can it not tell it's a 1080p monitor with that hookup?

Also, for the storage space, it tells me Internal Storge of 7.87GB, which is about what I had expected for the APP section, but the NAND Flash is 6.52GB, which is not what I was expecting to see with he parameter8 parameter file. I expected there to be closer to 12GB since there is suppose to be 16GB of total space on the X7. I know there is some overhead involved, but nearly 6GBs? Can anyone explain why it would be half of what I had expected? I haven't installed anything as of yet.

Yes it going to be your DVI converter. HDMI spec uses a EDID protocol to tell devices what resolutions they can support. Since it's not getting that, it has disabled 1080P in settings.

As for space. yes there is overhead and space used by the ROM itself.
FYI 7.87 + 6.52 = 14.39 gb. So it's not that much overhead as your thinking. Did you round down the number or something

Thanks for replying Bob! As far as the HDMI goes, that's what I was thinking. Shouldn't be a problem when it's hooked up to a TV via straight HDMI then.

Wow, I wasn't expecting the "overhead" to be nearly that much! I guess it won't matter though since I'll be adding a 32GB SD card for storage of anything I can move over to it. I just wanted to make sure I hadn't screwed something up with the flash process.

7,87+12=19,87 - dunno exactly how you thought it would fit in 16gb.
7,87+6,52=14,39, that's mean that there's just 1,61gb reserved for the OS, not that much.

Ouch! My bad (math)! I must have been tired...I didn't get much sleep the night before. I probably shouldn't have even been trying to flash anything at that point.

Rereading your reply now, I see that you did say that, and it's clear to me today, but as I said to NixZero, I was pretty tired that day, and I was trying to do multiple things at the same time too, so I'm lucky I was able to accomplish anything that day. Sorry for the misunderstanding Bob!

Anyone had any issues with the HuluPlus or CBS apps with this ROM? I tried watching videos on both of these and I got the same strange result. When I start up the video, the little circle "wait" indicator starts spinning, then it just completely loses video. The box is still on, as the blue light is still displaying, but the TV indicates no signal. It's like the HDMI signal stops sending. I tried holding the power button in for 5 seconds or so, but that didn't restart or shutdown the box. I have to pull the power plug to fix it.

Could it have anything to do with the fact that these are 1080 signals being sent to a 720 TV? The rest of the parts of these apps seen to work fine. It's just when I start up a video. However, I am able to run 1080p video from my NAS, not well being that it's over my 5GHz wireless, but at least it starts, and I don't lose the video signal.

Yes, CBS, ESPN, etc have problems (they crash hard once you try and stream like you reported above) with the Minix 007e and 008 roms. Finless 1.8 is based on the 007e rom. Minix is aware of the problem and have reported back that it was due to their 1080p overlay. They posted on minixforums.com that they were working on the problem. The Minix 006 rom works fine so regress to that if you need these apps to work.

The Minix 006 rom works fine so regress to that if you need these apps to work.

That sucks! At least it's good to know that it isn't just my X7 having the problem. I can live without those two apps for now. I have other machines that run them fine if I really need to use them. Funny that NetFlix seems to work fine for some reaason. They must be displaying their vids in a different manner on Android.

Hey Bob I got a quick question, my brother bought the minix x7 mini and he wants to flash your finless 1.8 rom with the over clocked kernels, will it be fine or is it doable because both of them have the same rockchip 3188 chipset.

X7, mini uses different hw
Dont flash this rom on mini..
