Minix Neo X7 - Finless 1.8 ROM

Hello everyone, I'm new in this Minix X7 forum. I'm receiving my Minix X7 today and quite excited about it. I think I'll start using the device with this Finless ROM 1.8 as I know Finless makes great ROMs (I had MK908 before) and also because of the compliments here. Can I flash this ROM straight to my unit, like out of the box or do I need to boot it with stock firmware first? Also I'd be grateful for any opinions on good 1080p OC kernels to make smooth (and safe) using experience. My main use for the X7 will be watching movies (from desktop with XBMC or Archos) and listening some music. Thank you.

The following kernel should be a good starting point (not too heavily oc'd but still sufficient for basically all movie watching needs): 'kernel1080_cpu1800h_gpustock600_ddr720.img'

xbmc
Bob, first off I think your a genius.
I found your XBMC install very easy to use... First time with this box... Had trouble with XBMC getting 1080p... I followed your patch and it worked great, Thank You for that
I would also let people know that why there not getting 1080p, on there box is probably human error...
Can't get something in 1080p if it wasn't recorded in 1080p.. Just my two thoughts...
Whenever something is recorded format that is the highestvyou will view it... There is no magic button to make it TRUE HD....
Maybe someone can write a better help section on this...
Bob, I due believe you need to work on the XBMC dev team... You sir would be a great benefit to the open source...
Hope this helps someone...
Finless 1.8
MINIX XBMC(LATEST MINIX VERSION), WITH BOB'S PATCH
WORKING FLAWLESS...

EXCELLENT upgrade.
I had been neglecting my Neox7 for a few months as other things came up IRL. Came back to check out the forums and was pleased to find it flourishing. Thanks bob this update is AWWESOME.. nothing short of a complete overhaul considering i came from 004 stock.
ALL of my 1080 files are smooth as butter now. only one reboot so far. but it was druing a bunch of installing updating of apps.. who knows what caused that but i'll keep an eye on it. so far so good. your instructions were perfect. quick quesiton though. Will your roms be flashable via a custom recovery such as cwm if i were to go that route? obvs i would have to zip everything up myself. loving the oC kernel btw as well!
can't wait to do some more testing. such a HUGE improvement!!!

anyone had any success with xposed modules? i'm able to install the framework no problem. some modules i've tried with varying success are appsettings xhalo and gravity box. not getting very far. also still new to xposed modules. in gravity box i was able to get a few things working that i really wanted. 3 dot over flow transparancy etc. can't seem to get xhalo working. and with app settings really all i want is to have quick toggels in my notifications. and with this version of 4.2.2 are users enabaled? sorry for all the qustions at once.Last edited by unlo; 21 December 2013, 21:27.

Problem with init.d script
Hi,
I wan't to load a kernel module on X7 bootstrap. It doesn't work.
The module is in the right directory with the right permission:
Code:> adb shell ls -la /system/lib/modules/mceusb.ko -rw-r--r-- root root 21657 2013-12-12 17:33 mceusb.ko
Code:> adb shell ls -la /system/etc/init.d/90mceusb -rw-r--r-- root root 113 2013-12-22 17:59 90mceusb
Code:#!/system/bin/sh insmod /system/lib/modules/mceusb.ko
If I load it manually from the terminal the module is loaded with no problems, and it works.
But if I start manually the script in init.d directory I get this error:
Code:$ su # sh ./90mceusb : not found5[2]: 'nsmod: can't open '/system/lib/modules/mceusb.ko : not found5[4]: 127|root@android:/system/etc/init.d #
thanks,
tode

Ive flashed with finless 1.8 with the recommended oc
kernel above. For most part it works fine except there was one or two occasion iy auto reboots.
My rikomagic mk702ii airmouse working for most part except a few
occassion when it startup, the cursor lag until likr not moving, then have to
reboot to get it working again. I think this only happens on starup
from total powered down state.

Was having too many lags and shutdowns, i decided to reflash the rom again. Erased NAND, flashed again with the least OC'd option, and still am having troubles.
Whether stock or Apex launcher, it lags the soul out of the box, and browsing is near unusable, i have also noticed some sort of TCP/IP flaw, sometimes it takes a minute to process the information of a webserver, even the router's management web interface.
As soon as i get home, i will try different types of OC's kernels and even the non-oc one.
PS, i have asked around and never got an answer, Apex launcher has this effect on homescreen changing called "alpha effect", it smoothes the transition of the pages, if activated, the lag is so big you can literary have a nap before the lag is cut down. What does this tell? even my Desire C can handle it.

Well, I tested all kind of combinations, Finless 1.6-7-8, Quickshot, Lewy's, with kernels stock and OCed, 720 and 1080, MX Player, BS Player, XBMC a dozen of variants; on a Neo X7. I think I flashed more than a 100 times. Read a lot, here and in other forums too. I cannot find any combination which plays 1080p without frame dropping. The most obvious is when watching the credits at the end of the movies, the stuttering can be clearly seen. I tried the same movies on a cheap (and old) egreat R6S and the movies are smooth, no stuttering. Is that Neo X7 really unable to play 1080p movies smoothly?

APK -> Minix XBMC APP that works on Finless ROMs (53 megs)
So now you get my build.prop tweaks for the Google Play compatibility AND Minix XBMC APP will now run.
Sorry Minix but people like my ROMs better then stock so this is a must for people to be happy.
FYI folks, don't expect this to work on anything other than the X7. It also has tweaks specific to X7 hardware, library files, or something like that. I tried it on my CX-919 and it wont run. It passes the model check but never opens (it hangs with a black screen).
Enjoy,
Bob
