Petrus just posted an update to the reboot app that fixes all of the problem in KitKat. I'm mobile so I can't give you a link...but look in the App Developer's Kitchen section.

Thanks for the feedback on the guide. I've done this so long, I kinda assume people can figure it out...but its always a work in progress....like my ROMs.

Originally, custom ROMs were only for the strong hearted...but it is much more mainstream. Anything I can do to improve the experience would be great.

yeah I recognise the mainstream bit.. it sort of reminds me of my main hobby, I started out on a commodore 64 - that machine still holding the record for being the most sold computer, doesn't get more mainstream.. but it took me most of my teenage years to actually learn it propperly (and I am still working on it with a group of friends world wide to recover lost software for historical archiving purpouses)

Would actually love to learn more about doing more on Android.. it's the first thing IT related since the internet that really sparks my intrest.. but for now I'll just be extremely greatfull people like you make things more simple, accesible, understandable and care about a forum like you guys do.. so I can spend the next weeks catching up on reading

kitkat regressions

Hi, a couple questions for all you brave souls exploring KitKat land.

I've heard some ugly rumors, are they true?

• Sandboxing data: can only write to external sd card within an app's data directory. No more access to shared "books" or "video" directories. ? does root negate this?
• Bypasses /etc/hosts/: breaks a century of UNIX tradition to stop users /dev/null'ing doubleclick.net to 127.0.0.1 and other DNS style adbocking tools. Proxy server methods still can work, but aren't nearly as elegant or fast.

Good morning I have a doubt, my tablet pipo m9 pro arrived today and comes with version 4.4.2 of origin was wondering if you still need to activate the (RK3188Loader (L) _V1.24.bin) to install this rom Riley .
I apologize for this request because I understand little English and have difficulty perceiving the tuturiais completely

If you still have the stock firmware installed, check the date and see if your version is newer than the one I made this ROM with. If it is newer...I would like you to dump the ROM for me.

I can give you ROM dumping instructions if you need them.

The correct loader should be 2.08. 1.24 is for Jellybean...don't flash that one.

Sorry when I said (1.24) would be (RK3188Loader (L) _V2.08.bin)
the version that comes with my tablet is: (rk3188-eng 4.4.2 KOT 49H eng.ljh.20131226.144921 test-Keys)

With this need to activate the loader version (v2.08) in flash tool when installing the RileyROM 2.5.2 KitKat?

That's the same KitKat. You don't need to reflash that loader.

I upgraded from finless 1.4

I have to say, it has transformed the tablet into an altogether different device - I love it!

It seems much faster and more 'professional' all round... I love the new keyboard...

The touchscreen seems much more responsive than before.

All the apps I have downloaded work flawlessly.

WiFi connects much faster. Boot/shutdown are very fast.

The only negatives I have found so far are: -

1) The magnetic sensor doesn't work (no compass ap)
2) The little menu at the bottom of the screen (volume control, etc.) cannot be 'swiped' away

I believe GPS is not supported but I didn't use it in finless....

Ok, Contacts now sync.
Here's what I did in addition to unfreezing Contacts.apk:
Grab the latest gapps from CyanogenMod, for CM11. Here.

Open the zip file, extract the file system/app/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk

Have the tablet plugged in, adb debugging on, push the file to the tablet:

adb root
adb remount 
adb push GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk /system/app/

Then check that the option "Contacts" is now available in Settings->Accounts/Google->(your account).

I am new here and i don't have much of experiance in these things yet . I installed the kitkat Riley rom. It's the first time i did this. Could you please help me and explain step by step how to do what you have done now to add contacts to your gmail. I put GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk on a sd card and put it on my old computer with win XP ( did the same to install Kittkat , didn't worked with win 7 ).But from there i don't know what to do. I know how to work on my motorcycle but this is something else . But i am eager to know new things and try them out.

I've just flash this ROM yesterday. Before i've installed RileyROM 2.0.
In accord to the 2.0 the 2.5.2-ROM is at first view faster and smoother. Although GPS is missing - but i only need it infrequently.

However i've another problem with this ROM.
I login into my Google-Account with my M9pro. Google Play and GMail works fine. But the preinstalled Calendar-App doesn't connect to my Account. It tells me to resign-in into a Google-Account. But when i do this i got the error message, that the Google-Server isn't reachable. I tried it yesterday and today a few times - it doesn't work. How can i fix this? Is it at all a bug in this ROM? Because in RileyROM 2.0 it's working...

Thanks all for your help in front and especially to Riley for his great work. Your ROMs are much better then PIPOs stock...
