I've had my M9 for over a year, I finally decided to try a bit of KitKat and looks like I've bitten off more than I can chew !
I've had various tablets and flashed roms in past so I thought I'd have ago at KitKat 2.5.2
All usb drivers loaded fine and using utility rebooted2flash and loaded the flash mode driver.
Ran erase IDB fine, and moved onto the Flash ROM.
All data written to file but failed on the "check download data".
    <snip>
The M9 is now dead, no response.
When I connect back to PC the Flash utility reports, "Found RKAndroid Loader...."
after about 20secs the device drops out and I see "No Found RKAndroid Loader ..."
after a further few secs it's found again only to drop out again.
So the device is in some kind of on-off device seen/missing loop.
As mentioned on the guide page14 "bootloop" have tried using reset-ESC-power to hold M9 in loader mode but device drops out even when holding the power button.
Have tried other PC and again device is seen and then drops out.
I used to like KitKats, hope someone can help or advise.
    thanks
It sounds like you have a Max M9. Looks exactly the same as the M9Pro. Look on the rear of the tablet, down the bottom, the Max has "Pipo M9". The M9 Pro (which this ROM is for) has "Pipo M9Pro". The M9Pro also has "32GB" in a small circle below the main logo. Whereas the Max has nothing regarding GB. Many, many people, including me, have made the same error.

If you can confirm that you have the Max, then head over here and download the RileyROM for the Max. This is only a Jellybean, but it will still make your Pipo run smoother and be more responsive. Note that the post talks about old PCB and new PCB. I'm not too sure how to tell if you have an old PCB or not. Maybe try the Rom for the newer board first. These tablets are almost unbrickable.

Let us know if this solves your problems.

There isn't currently a KitKat ROM for the original M9 Max tablet (although Freaktab Developer Dnkn is working on one).

If you flashed this ROM on your M9 Max, follow the same direction I gave in the post immediately above yours.
Thanks for reply, yea have the original M9 model which I got in May 2013, I thought this rom would still work as gps and screen are main differences. Going to take apart and put try the "mask" mode method. Will make sure I get original M9 rom if I get that far and have bootloader checked. At present I only get about 20 secs before device drops, not even enough time for erase IDB.

Have also tried with power connected and other usb cables.
Off to work now will try later tonight, "Another brick in the wall..."

Back from the Dead, the brick is reborn

        Breaking news...
Managed to open my M9 max case using credit card, fairy easy compared to other tabs.
My NAND chip is: 29F16B08 JAMD 1
Was unable to find any datasheet on this but as suggested tried short on pins 7-8 and got tablet into mask mode
Very small used a toothpick to count 7 times and used needle to short what should be 7-8.
Whilst shorting reconnected usb cable and "MaskROM" displayed on Flashtool screen.

        Downloaded RileyRom 2.1 and tried to erase NAND and got;

        INFO: Start to erase NAND
ERROR: "MaskRom must be choose Loader for erasing".

So I repointed the loader at the KitKat 2.5.2 loader.bin and got the NAND to erase.
Then repointed loader back at the 2.1 loader.bin and Flashed the 2.1 rom

The brick now breathes and I have a nice new 2.1 RileyROM on my Pipo Max M9

It's been an interesting 24hrs, thanks to rrileypm, mariusV and amhonra

The guide PDF in the package has all you need just read it twice before doing anything. Only advice I have is do not use windows 8.1.

If your tab is recognised under Windows 8, then it must be good. On my part, I prefer to use Windows 7 32 bits.

I think so but i cannot guarantee that as I have used windows xp. Parents old PC found its usefulness. But I think that the driver issue is only on windows 8.1. You can Google rockchip windows8.1 driver problems or something like that. I also read that there are some newer version of drivers that where suppose to work.. But they did not for me.

You can just try... If the drivers will be wrong you will not able to do anything... So you should not brick ....

It has now been tested and shows to be working and stable. This is now v2.5.2, with the root fixed.
Thank you for this! I´ve been trying your rom out the latest days and it´s so much better than all the 4.2.2 roms. Kitkat really makes a huge difference for me, no more freezes or lag. Can´t wait for pipo to finish the official stable rom so we can get gps working aswell.

Hopefully soon. They just released firmware for the M6 Pro that fixed GPS.

Forge OGG idea, I check for real racing and all souind files are MP3...

Besides that, I look at cpu frequency and see that frequency not goi to 1.6 but seems blocked to 1.42, strange no?

ANd it could explain why sound is so bad, because if frequency did not go up, graphioc is treated first and sound after when the soft have time to treat it.

Is there a soft somewher that can test cpu speed?

I try Antutu and get something around 18750 I think.

                              EDIT:
It is confirmed, the CPU did not go above 1416 Mhz whatever I do, running game or benchmark.

Is someone have any idea to tune that?

                              EDIT 2:

I try SetCPU, but even pushing MIN and MAX Frequency to 1600, the cpu is set to 1416 max.
I also have the sound problem I games like real racing and robot unicorn attack.
                              Does anyone have I solution?

Yes, go back and flash a 4.2 rom version, I never found any solution for that problem. And as problem I have on 4.2, ie sound glitch on bluetooth a2dp protocol was solved by cuting wifi, I prefer to go back on 4.2
