up and running
hiya Randy,
first of all a big thanks for this Rom!
I'm relatively new to Android.. allthough after getting hooked on an MK908 stick a couple of months ago, something clicked..
So far my line up is a MK908 with Finless Rom, A Jiayu G4 Advanced that I flashed yesterday for my girlfriend to replace her Huwai W1 windows phone (using the jiayu.es rom) and today unboxed my Pipo M9 Pro.. I guess you can say i'm getting addicted to Android
I had intended to install Finless' version (based on my MK908 stick experience), but after reading his post suggesting people to your roms, that was an easy choice
I've read this entire thread, itchy fingers to get started, but knowledge is kingso also thanks to everyone contributing here.. definately a forum I will enjoy to hang around in!
Also just sent a donation over on paypall.. did not do that when updating my MK908, and after reading this thread I felt real stupid not doing that for Finless too (did not grab his rom through freaktab forum), so will be doing the same for him too - thanks for pointing out you guys use those to actually buy the hardware, don't think people like me realise this enough
That all said.. I flashed your rom, had some driver issues, so fell back to a clean windows 7 image and from there on it worked perfect!
I hope you dont mind some small suggestions to add to the "First time user guide pro rev6" for newbies though:
- can't hurt to tell people not to connect the tablet before they install the usb drivers
- and perhaps bump the "never install drivers from windows update" to the top too (regardless of using the rockchip app)
- oh an seen before in the previous pages, but definately rename the RKAndroidTool.exe to ROM_Flash_Tool_137, although obvious this is the .exe one needs, I know this is exactly what friends of mine will be stuck on when they get their machine
I do have one small question left..
After flashing your rom, I still get a Pipo interactive media 4.2.2 boot screen, but it does not include any Riley logo in the screen (as mentioned in a post in the beginning of this thread).
When I go to "about tablet" in settings however, it nicely shows 4.4.2
The only refference I have is Finless' rom for my MK908, which has his signature screen when booting, so i'm wondering if I did anything wrong.
Kind regards,
Tim from the Netherlands

Thanks for the input. I've since updated the First Time User's Guide and now include it in my new ROM kits. You can read it here: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...for-RileyROM-s
See if that one makes more sense...and tell me what I should do to make it more clear to newbies.
I've slept a few times since I made that ROM. I can't remember if I used the old 4.2.2 kernel brand image or not. When I switched to KitKat, the first couple of ROM's I did had the old graphic (I forgot it was 4.2.2 specific). Don't worry, you are running KitKat. It wasn't anything you did.
I will fix that on the next release, whenever that comes. I'm patiently waiting on an update from Pipo.Randy

On this ROM you MUST flash the loader or you will brick your tablet.

If the answer to question 1 is yes and on the second question no,you have bricked your tablet.

You have to open the tablet and shortcut 2 pins on de Nand chip.
About bootloader,it's explained here over and over and over again,it's also mensioned people should READ before flashing.

Actually, there are different loaders with some ROMs. It is safer to just flash the loader. Especially if you are trying ROMs from different developers. I use the stock loader...Oma and Kasty may use a different or modified loader.

thanks again
hi Randy,
Great.. read it and will make sure to hand my friends a copy too and make them read the latest version. That said, I probably should do their installs, nothing wrong with your info, I just dont think they have the patience to carefully read and think without bricking. (smiling as I read your 'critical thinking skills' remark again)
One small suggestion still left about the kernel.img explenation.
"This file is unique to your device"
This actually stopped me for a few minutes debating myself if I should somehow extract it from my device, untill I noticed it pointing to RileyRom/kernel.img as default.
Perhap you could change that to "This file is unique to your device model" As I am guessing you intended to have people double check to make sure they have the right rom package, correct?
Also thanks for confirming I'm on KitKat.
I read somewhere you like to keep your roms bare and clean with low eye candy,
which is how I like any OS to be, but I am hoping you'll make an exception for the boot screen on the next rom.. anything but stock would be much appreciated (or tips on how to do so myself)
Oh and a small thing, I guess I am used to windows -> start -> shutdown, it's why I like to use the reboot app on my MK908 tooWhen I do so on the Pipo, it hangs in an endless loop and doesn't go down. I read something similar in the last days, but thought I should mention it.
thanks again, Tim
