It requires a patched version of libmedia.so ... and a modified version of xbmc."
"The problem is the android java framework which don't allow us to pass the DIRECT_OUTPUT flag via AudioTrack to libmedia.so to activate passthrough. To get around this I have patched libmedia.so to activate passthrough when the streamType argument passed to audiotrack is set to STREAM_VOICE_CALL (audio stream for phone calls) and since most people don't use their neo x5 to make phone calls with I don't think this will cause any problem."
This implementation had some issues with communications apps (e.g. Skype, Hangouts) so stafstrom made a 2nd libmedia version which corrected the issue (for mono audio).
Unfortunately this patch approach requires patching XBMC and as new versions keep appearing it becomes too demanding to patch all of them!
So, from my (candid?) point of view, developing a "proper" passthrough device for Android should be a better solution. Can anyone give some insight on this? is this approach unreasonable (e.g. because it may require modifying the android java framework and recompile XBMC against it) and/or too difficult?

SPDIF
After trying all custom roms I ended up with Finless 1.8.
Very stable, very fast and last but not least,no audio issue's anymore.
Works great with Beyond XBMC "digital audio enabled"
And in settings" rockchip/spdif" enabled.
Although all roms are nice and better than stock, I stay with Finless 1.8

I would like to try, but I have a Minix X5 and not a Minix X7. Could you make a KitKat-4.4.2 for Minix X5?
As I understand KitKat uses a 3.0.36+ kernel (the same kernel version is used in 4.2.2 roms). Does that mean that I can run your KitKat rom (system.img) with a rk3066 android 4.2.2 3.0.36+ kernel?
