I tried this with my cmx mx2 I figured if I upgraded openelec to the newest version from this one it would work well now my cmx mx2 is screwed I tried everything but it wont boot on its own even with the older version

This installs 4.2.1 and the you can manually update. I update to Devel build ending in 328.

there are different mx boxes if the av is next to the hdmi and the Ethernet lights are on the bottom of the Ethernet port then 116 shouldn't be an issue if not you got a junk mx.The only openelec that will work on the others that I found so far is OpenELEC-G18REF_MX2-4.2.1.zip

I just wanted to say that even some official, Matricom Gbox MX2 Boxes, with the AV next to the HDMI (mine's labeled 'Mon'), and the Ethernet lights on the bottom of the port, still cannot update to the latest OpenELEC 5.0.3. So not all of the genuine MX2 boxes fully work with the latest OpenELEC either. Mine only works up to 4.2.1 (well, OpenELEC-Amlogic.arm-devel-20141011031349-r19235-g75190c9.tar). I wish this finally got fixed.

But as far as installing Matricom's Android firmware 1.1.6, using the method on the link on the previous page you should be able to install it. If not, then there is something wrong with your box, whether it is related to it being a clone or not.

So are you saying your installation of OpenELEC 4.2.1 on top of your successfully installed Matricom Android firmware 1.1.6 worked just fine, but not when you tried upgrading 4.2.1 to OpenELEC 5.0.3? If so, what is the problem.

Personally, I cannot update above 4.2.1 even on my genuine Matricom Gbox MX2 box due to a problem with no video / black screen at boot (related to the HDMI and newer kernel). So if you have a black screen and nothing else (maybe a flicker at boot for a second), then you are like one of us.

Hi Guys,
new to forum and new to xbmc, so thanks for having me. First question (of many I suppose) . I have the M8 4K TT TV box square with blue triangle on front. I have downloaded openelec 5.03 from start of thread unzipped and copied to a micro sd card ready to try and install, but could someone please confirm that I have correct firmware for my box. Bit nervous being first attempt and don't want to brick it. Also a bit confused by terminology regarding hardware ie (K200) with Amlogic s802. Is that what I have as I can't see any reference to that on packaging. Mine says Cortex A9 Mali 450. Many thanks for any help

So how many different mx2 are there??? This is a hot mess. I thought there were just the gbox n mx2. That were a like. I wanted to buy in bulk n resell.

I get no black screen at all. Only people I know that get black screen are panasonic users and maybe some pioneer. I'll find out soon about the pioneer.

As far as I know the Dev build I use is the last build codesnake posted for 4.2.1 gotham 13.2. This build fixes the problem on the Dev build prior where you weren't able to save any skin settings.

I go and check when the 328 dev build was posted.

I've ordered a lot of G Box Mx's and the only black screen problem I had was on two that I can remember. But that was from a faulty box, because the black screen did happen until I used the box for over 30 mins.

My G Box's run awesome. The only problem that I see on this openelec build is if you turn the box off and then turn it back on to fast. You will more then likely get stuck on the OpenELEC splash screen. And that only happens if your box gets stuck and you have no choice to use the remote to shut it down. If you have to use the remote to ever shutdown your box, you need to wait 30+ seconds before you turn it back on.

For what I use my box for, having that issue fixed will make my G Box the perfect box.

ok the **** seller replied back, he said it won't take any other firmware. now I'm asking for a refund. now my question is where can i find the original. i wanna run openelec my reason is why is because its easy for my customer to navigate straight to xbmc. mx2 is the only box I've ever touch and with price i can make a little profit. thanks for replies!

what does this file do? I'm not tech savvy at all. code snake had guide me to where I'm at not through this forum which i think i gave him a lot of headaches. but i really thankful for his work n help.

You may be right about your version being newer. If it includes the later kernel, then yes. The version I have is merely the last / latest working one that does not cause the black screen at boot issue.

And the black screen issue may show itself on Panasonics but it is a universal problem no matter the tv for me. Unlike what some say on here about it being a faulty box, it is absolutely a software issue as any of the versions from my 4.2.1 I use and below work fine, as well as all the Matricom android firmwares. I am also not the only afflicted. Count yourself lucky you do not have this issue. Overall, there is some piece of hardware in our MX2 boxes which differs slightly than yours and other working ones that is causing the problem.

I believe Codesnake was working on a fix for this, an HDMI bug, I believe, but after 5 months, Ikm losing hope. Not that I blame him given the time he puts into everything and everyone here..

Note: I got another official replacement box just last fall so perhaps the differing hardware piece relates to having a newer Matricom Gbox MX2...

Yes I have a sdcard with the bootloop recovery on it that works great for me. And then I just reflash with the link I posted a few posts back.

Yes, the only way to recover is to load matricom 1.1.5 (as it uses the old MTD) then reinstall OE. Is a bit of a pain in the ass but the latest builds seem to happen less.

There are heaps of mx variants. You need to be really careful which ones you purchase. I've been stung with a 1.1 mx unit which uses a g02ref board. This struggles to load any matricom firmware, and isn't compatible with any firmware kernels higher than 3.0. That's why OE 4.2.1+ won't load on these units. You can tell if you have one by the lights on the Ethernet port being at the top of the port and the SPDIF port being next to HDMI rather than AV. These are absolute piles of crap and wouldn't recommend them.

The other variants have the g18ref board. These are the 2.0, 2.2 and 2.2.1 and are in line with the g boxes. You shouldn't have any trouble installing openelec on these but different boards may have different bugs such as HDMI issues etc

trying to update and have got the android screen up with list rebbot system /apply updates etc but cannot move cursor down to apply update from ext. What do I do??? Tried ordinary remote/wireless keyboard and Yatze app on phone
