Guest Hmm you would have thought a big company like SanDisk could get that right but then again they may have their reasons. Of course love to have a large SSD but they're just too expensive. Regular harddrive? Err often too noisy, I have a couple of 3.5 external drives which I don't use because of the noise! maybe a 500GB Seagate 2.5 at a good price?

Does anybody know if a 500GB 2.5 drive gets enough power from just the one connection using a caddy i,e, not using the extra power cable? Not really that bothered as the SanDisk 128GB sticks I use have a 5 year guarantee.

Yes, good work again K! Thank you.

EDIT: This looks a bargain: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-inch...ords=500gb+2.5
Still a bit expensive, but good price!

EDIT 2: I think the prices must have dropped: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FXJWO5...ing=UTF8&psc=1
    Even better price!
Using wd elements 1 TB usb3 connection plugged to my mxq and works fine.
Was a bit expensive but worth every penny.

That looks pretty good, is it quiet? I would probably get just the drive as I have several 2.5 caddies laying about, they're dirt cheap about £1.50 if that! Does that drive run from just one USB cable?

Bit off topic, but we'll get back on track soon!

This looks like a good cheap drive and looks like it only needs usb power (1 port): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Slim...ZRHTKQJ7X0CNQC

Tempted! Just don't have the pennies at the, but a contender together with the WD.

PatrickJB Thank you for your extensive testing and logs. I'll try to work on power/reboot thing but this is only possible if I can reproduce your issues or some other come up. Meanwhile please enjoy the release, I'm happy to hear that skin reset issue is no more.

I'm sorry if I sometimes sound harsh but I'm not a native English speaker and sometimes it's hard to find appropriate words to speak out my mind.

As for external drives, I use WD Elements - both USB-powered 2.5" and externally powered 3.5". I also have a USB-powered Seagate drive. They are all very silent!

kszaq Don't be silly you are always very polite and we are all grateful for the work you do, really. You turn a OK box into a real powerhouse and that's worthy of praise

As for storage anybody tried this: cant get link to work!!!

It looks almost like a mini home sever!

EDIT: wrong link if you didn't get the wifi drive, updated now though! I think!!

Edit 2: look for this on Amazon: " Toshiba Canvio AeroCast Wireless Portable Hard Drive 1 TB USB 3.0 "

Looks cool! Yes any noise is an issue for me, must be sensitive or something which is why I thought SSD. Couldn't sort link in other post but wifi drives!!! Bonkers, like a mini home server.

I don't think this is possible, it used to be but apparently not any more. I not techie enough but someone else may explain,

EDIT: of couse you can boot from Nand by removing SD card. SD will work if inserted before boot.

oceth Apart from the method mentioned by PatrickJB there is no other way at the moment. There used to be a way but it needed a modified bootloader and since I don't want people to brick their boxes, I moved to modifying u-boot variables. I am working on making "Reboot from NAND" possible again but I can't give an ETA for that.

Didn't want to just up and PM you. Looking to fork and recompile for a different board that has additional hardware i.e. bluetooth, osd, optical spdif, etc. Not trying to thread jack so please PM me.

I have two mxq all black. I was able to install openelec on both with out any trouble. On the v.10 board everything seems to work great but I finish my build and unplug it to take ie to the other room. When I plug it back up the setting I had just went back to default. On the v.03 board I just get no sounds. I have to unplug the hdmi then plug it back then I'll get sounds. I've tried with other hdmi and it does they same thing.

Two new builds should be out soon, one for Isengard and o beta for Jarvis, that sort the skin problem. As for the sound problem I'm not sure, perhaps somebody else here has a solution for that. Sound works fine on my MXQ, I don't know the board number as I haven't opened my box up yet. There are test builds of the new versions a page or two back if you want to try them.

People like to transfer their own video and music library's to Hard disk so they never need their original cd/dvd/blu-ray again. Also people have emulators and have a library of roms. You can never fully rely on a stream anyway, they come and go like flies.
