    Try this ?

Expand the boot.zip and extract all files onto a SD Card. Rename the twrp.img to kernel.img. That's it and try to boot from it.

This twrp should also solve the incompatibility error when one performs the OTA update which says "device is q201_64".

Downloaded, extracted onto sd card and renamed twrp to kernel.img. Still not booting into recovery mode, its going staright to android tv system, ignoring the recovery command..
Am I doing it wrong or I have to do something first on my SD Card?

Did you press the reset and hold the button using a toothpick ? Did you feel there is a button in the av port ?

You might want to check if your SD card is corrupted or strange brands ( too small size or too big size ). Maybe reformat the SDCard.

Suggest you reformat the SD using fat32 format. Could be the SDCard is not in fat32 format. Or find a SDcard between 1G to 4G. USB data stick might also work but never tried that.

2gb SD card, formatted in fat 32 format, still cant boot into TWRP mode. Alternatively is there any way i can root x92 3/16GB. The main purpose I am trying this TWRP process is to get root access.

Using the TWRP edited as recovery.img and dummy update zip, when it restarts, it is saying booter is wrong, installation failed.

my box has android 7.1 but still I tried all TWRPs.

So, for Android 7, you need TWRP 3.1.1....
                          Format your sd card.....FAT32

Booting from SD card WITHOUT the Reset Switch:
                          From PC....
                          1) Download the TWRP (depend for Android 6 or Android 7).Then rename it to recovery.img
                          2) Copy this recovery.img file to the your sd card
                          3) Copy a "dummy" Update.zip file to sd card. A "dummy" file can be downloaded here
                          Insert sd card to X92......
                          4) Go to the "Backup / Update" app on your X92. Then select Local Update , then Select , then browse to Update.zip on your sd card.
                          (Wipe data/wipe media.....untick)
                          5) Hit Update.
                          6) Your X92 will then reboot into TWRP.
7 Use TWRP itself to install the TWRP recovery by using TWRP's 'flash image' option to install the TWRP recovery.img
                          8) Reboot recovery using the Reboot Manager App you downloaded and installed from the apps store above.

The zip file already comes with a kernel.img, did you delete it first before renaming ? Rename probably failed that 's why you boot straight to android.
