Well, the status bar and navigation bar are part of SystemUI.apk, which was updated with the version in the Nexus Player so that it's consistent with the Android TV experience. So, that's by design.

And I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Limited Google Play? Do you mean Google Play for Android TV, which limits itself to apps designed to work with Android TV? That would also be by design. If you want the "normal" Google Play, then you should install the Nano or Stock variants of this custom ROM.

Yes, as soon as the Amlogic SDK 7.1 is relatively stable. The one early release we've seen so far wasn't ready for mainstream adoption.

looks like the stock dpi for android tv is not set in screenshots, it should =320 in build.prop has this been changed since ? just asking so i know if i need to change it.
nice work though this will save me a lot of time for a change, so thanks for sharing this mate.

              Edit:

Just looked its ro.sf.lcd_density=240 stock is 320. coming from nexus player then shield tv 240 just looks a bit odd to me.

Also here is the stock .bpm nexus splash screen (bootup) I noticed its not been changed just thought i would share if interested
i made it for something similar i done a few month back. straight swap in the logo_res folder for anyone else interested. (using customization tool)

Setting to stock 320 dpi was causing problems for default AOSP onscreen keyboard and several sideloaded (non-ATV) apps. I rolled it back to 240 initially as a workaround, but admit that I now prefer seeing more on the screen. Easy enough to fix in the build.prop, if you prefer something else.

Cool, some tv apps might have issues with wrong dpi, i can easily change it though like you say. i want to look at getting the LeanbackIME.
as again its something i'm used to from shield

was not an issue on the S905X device i had but guessing not here ? not got my GT1 yet so wouldn't know

                  Edit:

Could also remove xbmc_addons.sh and installApks.sh from /bin folder
its how they install their crap ware to data partition after factory reset on stock rom. could be useful if you want to add your own stuff i guess

You'll need to fully remove the DroidLogic system control from the framework to do this, as it's hardcoded to the AOSP onscreen keyboard. See Known Bugs in the OP.

Careful, as these are both referenced from the kernel.

I'm ok with .smali will have a look when i get my box see if i can work around it
its not an issue on the 6.0.1 builds for S905x devices or at least mine, so going to diff some parts see how much is changed

if i can find the references in the smali i could change it to force LeanbackIME rather than LainIME

Looking forward to a Nougat release if your time allows! Thanks

Do you know where this DroidLogic System control is found ? I've looked at some of the obvious things like droidlogic.jar and the framework.jar but can't find any references

is it just what logcat showed ? If you could point me in the right direction where droidlogic system control was referenced would be a big help as I don't have the gt1 yet.

                          Edit:

Found references to this in smali from droidlogic-res.apk anywhere else i should be looking ?

i tried and works pretty well, just must use the boot card maker method to flash the device, and after apply the wifi patch
(kinda tricky when i use a rca tv xD )

                              nice work!

According to this post, the GT1 and MXIII - GII have compatible firmware with different WiFi chipsets. If it's an AP6255 chipset, then you should be able to install the update to restore wireless functionality after flashing the custom ROM.
