    Hello mate.
I just installed Antutu and the sound is exactly as you described on my box, think I read somewhere that it's a known/common problem.

    My results were 42936
    3D:9204
    UX:15088
    CPU:13776
    RAM:4868

OK thanks a lot for testing that out, good to hear that that isn't specific to mine!

You make it sound like we're criticising by stating the obvious, which isn't very constructive. I can't cook, so I never criticised my wife's cooking, if catch my drift. Communication is king

Agree communication is king - just pointing out don't set expectations to high to early. It will mature and be optimised as it goes forward which is what that statement indicates. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs

You'll be happy to know that it's already exceeded my expectations, and then some. It's blown the stock Alfawise ROM out of of the water, and given me a working box.
I have nothing gratitude and admiration for superceleron for his work and efforts, top banana.
So if I report a bug that I've encountered, it's an innocent communication, nothing more.

criticism never intended mate. I like the firmware too.

Assuming your reply was in response to mine, are you indicating that:
                  a) You see the same performance issues in SCV3?
                  b) And that those issues did not occur in the stock firmware?

If not, then that's not really helping me much.

My personal experience so far is that SCV3 at least matches and generally exceeds the stock firmware in terms of stability, reliability and performance. I've not hit any of the bugs that I experienced in stock 6.0.1 or the different issues I found in stock 7.1.1. Nor have I found any new problems unique to SCV3 - not even the ones listed in the OP; I was able to update Netflix fine, for example.

The purpose of my posts was to establish whether the video performance issues I now see are unique to my box - something I feared by virtue of no-one else mentioning them.

Perhaps they are caused by the ROM - it's not impossible, given I see YouTube videos showing smooth 4K video performance of the stock ROM (although no-one ever tests it very thoroughly.) But re-flashing back to stock to test and then back to SCV3 again takes some time and effort and this is why I wanted some confirmation.

That said, I may ultimately well try a flash back to stock 7.1.1 as it's worth a go for comparison. I'm currently investigating how TWRP backup/restore works, as I'd like to not lose the various setup I've so far done on SCV3 if possible.

The GPU in the s912(well any Amlogic cpu...) is not all that good that is why you guys see that low score in 3D...........

                      Yeah fair enough.

Can you tell me SC - do you expect smooth 2160p playback on the H96 Pro+? I am testing with an HEVC/H265 file, 2160p at 25 fps, 40Mb/s bitrate and I can see clear juddering / skipping frames on some scenes.

Maybe I am asking too much of the box? But I thought it was capable of 4k @ 60fps so I am quite surprised I am seeing juddering/slow down when I test it. Same slowdown happens in Kodi, SPMC, FTMC and MX Player Pro, so it is not specific to the app. And it is not related to overheating because I have a big fan pointed at the device.

I might test later with the stock 7.1.1 ROM, just to rule out issues with the ROM.

Wait.. I just got it working a lot better! At least for this file. I turned on "auto frame switch" ("HDMI Self Adaption" in Settings, and "Adjust Display Refresh Rate" in SPMC settings.).

Then when playing this 2160p / 25fps file, it caused my TV to switch to 1920x1080 at 50hz (2 x the 25fps). And it's now really smooth!

I had tried auto frame switch earlier but thought it wasn't working - I first tried it with a 1080p 24fps file (actually 23.976 fps) and it set the TV to 60hz, same as it always is, so I thought it wasn't doing anything.

But with this 2160 file at 25fps it sets the TV to 50hz and that definitely made a big difference.

So maybe this is the answer to smooth video playback? Or maybe it's going to vary file by file..

I still need to test with an actual 4K TV to be sure it still works OK when it's actually displaying that many pixels. And I need to test some more 2160p files, including 24fps files.

But for now, at least I do have this one 2160p file displaying very smoothly

Well is should work ok on all 4k stuff, dunno that high bitrate since the max i tested was 35Mb/s but was a 4k/h265/10bits and was ok, and yes the HDMI Self adaption helps a lot.
But i dint test in a 4k tv since i dont have one!

OK thanks man, that gives me hope that I can get this all working well!

This 40Mb/s file has the following info:

                            Duration : 49 min 57 s
                            Overall bit rate : 40.2 Mb/s
                            Video: x265 3840x2160 @ 25 fps 36 Mbps BT.2020 HDR

So although it's a max of 40Mb/s, it looks like it was a 36Mb/s profile - so probably pretty similar to the 35Mb/s you tested.

I will keep testing and see what I can see!

(Although I now kind of wish I could get a slightly faster box - I thought this H96 Pro+ was going to be great, but I see now it's not quite as fast as I hoped. I am tempted by those new RK3399 boxes, except I see the FW is only Android 6. If you ever get a chance to do a 7.1.1 for the Yundoo Y8 or H96 Max, I will definitely get one Or better, I need to learn how to make a FW myself! )

Well my next rom is going to be H96 Max Android 7.1.2.
About the file i played, actually is a lot more than 40Mb/s.

                              Overall bit rate : 51.4 Mb/s
                              Format : HEVC
Format/Info : High Efficiency Video Coding
Format profile : Main [email protected]@Main
                              Duration : 1 min 46 s
                              Width : 3 840 pixels
                              Height : 2 160 pixels
                              Display aspect ratio : 16:9
                              Frame rate : 23.976
                              Bit depth : 10 bits

H96 Max 7.1.2 will be awesome! I am going to order one now and I would be very pleased to help with beta testing etc of your new ROM

I wanted two boxes anyway - one for my Mum and one for me. My Mum can have the H96 Pro+ and I will keep the H96 Max for my own use once it arrives
