Vorke Z6 ATV Firmware Tested on my M8S Pro.

The ATV firmware for Vorke Z6 really works on the M8S Pro, almost all right, even the deep sleep option is working properly. But as Magendanz has mentioned before, it seems that the ATV constructions in this type of firmware cause some problem in the transmission of bluetooth audio. In other words it is not possible to use a bluetooth sound box because the audio looks like those of PSP/PS2 emulators for Android. Other than that everything is working perfectly well.

Hello I just purchased the Mecool M8S Pro and wondering how I go about installing this ROM as I am reading conflicting information on that I can just use an SD card or USB or I need to connect to a windows PC and do a reset install.

Thank you for the hard work.

      Cheers

Okay, come on, I'll tell you what you can do when your device arrives.

1 - Use your device with OEM firmware for a few days to be sure of stability and your liking for OEM or ATV firmware.

2 - After making sure you need to change the firmware, find a 2 GB or 4 GB memory card to flash the ATV firmware.

3 - You can download the firmware of the OTA update in ZIP format and place your card, then put the card in the device and open the update application.

4 - Or you can skip to Crazy mode, or rather, Expert User Mode: Download the OEM firmware of Vorke Z6 (in the topic Firmware ATV for Vorke Z6 / Tanix TX92)

5 - Record this firmware on your memory card with SD Burn Card Maker and flash the OEM Firmware Vorke Z6 and then the ATV firmware for it.

        - Having said all that, it's up to you to study a bit about using the SD Burn Card Maker tool, as well as making flash stops on AMLogic devices. -

            Hi Magendanz,
Very good job. I like very much your rom. I would like to suggest two upgrades:
            1) Fix the auto frame switch in kodi. Now it works but I need to use a specific plugin and sometimes the auto frame it's not working. Would be much better to allow kodi to do this without any external help
            2) Would be great to add to the kernel some ac wifi driver in order to use USB adapter. I suggest to include RTL88XX family.
            Thanks a lot in advance.

So, the auto framerate settings needs to be implemented by VideoStrong for the OEM. If you really need that, I'd recommend switching to my custom ROMs based on the Shiningworth firmware.

This does have built-in Bluetooth in the QCA9377 wireless chipset, so I don't see any point of adding support for USB dongles. That's more of a priority for the M8S PRO+ and M8S PRO W. (And at this point, the only one I can get to install is the Broadcom kernel module.)

I have today installed this firmware after ever since I bought the box from 'Wish' it has not been able to recognize my bluetooth device in pairing mode. I looked more into this and it looked like its an issue with 7.1.1 and the bug is fixed in 7.1.2.
I was hoping that installing this firmware with 7.1.2 that I could finally use my bluetooth headset but the same issue applies for me.
            Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the answer. In fact i made a post in the wrong topic. I wanted to refer to Mecool M8S L Pro firmware ! Shiningworth firmware exists also for M8S L Pro ?

You can install it on the M8S PRO (and probably also the M8S PRO L), but it's not technically supported...at least not yet. I'm considering releasing an M8S PRO build like I do for the GT1. The only thing that really changes are the device trees and the device description in the build.prop.

Magendanz, can you tell me how to activate the Ethernet on M8S Pro with Vorke z6's firmware without reinstalling the firmware itself?

You've got to edit the device trees in the dtb partition. Use dtbSplit to unpack, dtc to convert dtb to dts files, edit the ethernet@0xc9410000 section, convert back to dtb files, and then use dtbTool to repack.

Sounds confusing.. what values do I have to edit? Can I use .dtb from LibreELEC instead of editing?

Yes, it's not for the faint of heart. You can't take the M8S PRO dtb image from the stock OEM firmware, because the device trees are named unconventionally. I don't know about LibreELEC.

Thanks! And where (in which folder on the box) should I put it without reinstalling the current firmware?

Exactly, first flash this firmware then install the ATV firmware for the Vorke Z6. To get back to the M8S Pro ATV firmware you need to install the M8S Pro OEM firmware first. I made the entire process through the memory card using SD Burn Card Maker tool.

One small issue. I tried to connect in my PC monitor using HDMI cable and my PC is connected using DVI cable. But whenever i turn the input of my monitor to PC and come back to HDMI, only blank screen is displayed and mouse cursor is also there. But other than that nothing is displayed. Then I have to turn it off and and on again for the display to appear again. What could be the issue?

As promised, here's a build of the TVStock Nexus ROM for M8S PRO based on the Shiningworth firmware. Basically, it's the same as the ones I created for the Vorke Z6 and Beelink GT1, but I've updated the device tree so that Ethernet now works correctly.

                        Burn Package: Nexus_M8S_TVStock_NHG47L-20180119.img
                        OTA Update: update_Nexus_M8S_TVStock_NHG47L-20180119.zip

This has a bunch of new features and fixes that we haven't seen yet from VideoStrong. For starters,

                        - Quick (2-3 sec) resume from sleep with preserved user state
                        - Auto framerate settings (3 modes)
                        - Superuser root setting
                        - Hover at top edge of screen to show status bar
                        - Drag up from bottom of screen to show navigation bar
                        - HDR and SDR settings
                        - Additional Dolby/DTS/Digital audio settings

If the consensus is that this is better than the ones based on the official OEM stock firmware from Videostrong, we may move to this new foundation permanently. For now, though, it's just a trial. What do you think?
