    Hello
New member but following Frektab since using Neomode custom rom for my old Pipo X1 dongle.
I have a Mecool pro + using the ATV rom.
I'm using the amologic android tool, namely to boot to Lebreelec since my box has no reset switch.
Guest Thanks a lot for your excellent work making this small box much better.
Would it be possible to have, in a future rom, HDR videos working in youtube app?

So, in the build.prop there's a line "sys.open.deepcolor=true". In other M8S Pro devices, this is enabled but in the M8S Pro+ it's been commented out by the OEM. I left it alone, not knowing why they removed it, but you might want to check to see if uncommenting that line restores the HDR support.

@Magendanz Hi sorry i meant its fixed now with latest rom

I removed the comment at build.prop line "sys.open.deepcolor=true" but that didn't enable HDR in Youtube. So I commented that line again just in case.
I've seen somewhere that that feature is open by Youtube for selected hardware.
Maybe if it was possible to grab the app for instance from a Sony Android Tv...
By the way HDR works great for movies so the deepcolor parameter is not relevant in this case.
Is there any place where we can download the media player app from the Mecool stock rom?
      Thanks

Just use Amlogic Customization Tool to unpack the OEM burn package (.img file). You can grab anything you want from there.

In OEM V0619 firmware HDMI Self Adaptation option disappeared in my device (in fact whole Playback Settings menu in Settings). Is it present in this custom rom or unavailable either?

      Edit:
      @down
      Thanks

Yeah, it looks like VideoStrong removed it from the OEM firmware. Since this custom ROM is based on the latest OEM release, it got those updated Settings too. Unfortunately, without source code I'm fairly limited in what I can do to customize OEM apps.

You can find those hidden settings by apps, eg. Shortcut Master or install xposed and use xposed edge to easily get to the settings you want with any key you choose.

Can you confirm that the updater-script should contain only 1 single line that says exactly this?

        block_image_update("/dev/block/system", package_extract_file("system.transfer.list"), "system.new.dat", "system.patch.dat");
I didn't get an answer to my question, so i went ahead and flashed my Magicsee Iron S905X, and this is my update.

I followed the instructions from Longnt post.

First flashed the U2+ firmware which I downloaded from the OP's One drive.

I had it running on a few other boxes previously and it runs well.

So then I modified the updater-script from the M8S pro+ firmware as instructed in the post and flashed it with TWRP.

Everything seemed to go well, the update suceeded without any errors.

When I rebooted the box I got the Nexus static screen for 5 to 10 seconds, then the HDMI signal drops out.

Have rebooted the box several times with the same result. Get Nexus screen for a few seconds then HDMI gone.

Pressing reset button on boot up doesn't make a difference and usb burning tool doesn't recognize my device.

I tried everything from trying to boot in TWRP with recovery image on sd card, to a firmware update with a bootcard made sd card.

There are no Nand pins on the PCB, so any suggestions how to get it out of soft brick would be welcome.

Just to be clear: This custom ROM is built for the M8S PRO+...nothing else.

Mixing and matching partition images is risky, and you should be prepared to brick your box. I wouldn't even start this process without a known-good burn package and knowing which pins to short to recover in Mask ROM mode.

I just received my MeCool M8S Pro Plus unit and opened the box to examine the eMMC module. Here is the information stamped on the chip:

            1652KAE
            THGBMBG7D2KBAIL
            VD5815 CHINA

A Google search of the second line indicates that this is a Toshiba part.

Is there any way to know if the ATV ROM flash that you offer would brick this box containing this particular chip? Thanks very much.
            Hello Magendanz
Today I got MECOOL M8S PRO + the same eMMC. Can I flash TVStock Nexus ROM?

            Thank you for your answer

Probably not. I'd try one of the newer OEM firmware releases first, just to see if that succeeds. If it ends up hanging shortly after boot, you'll need to revert to the M8S_PRO+-20170829.121614.V0321.img OEM firmware that was flashed in the factory using USB Burning Tool. Link: http://freaktab.org/3acc0ea053ee8feb

Or, at that point you've got a decent RMA claim and can ask for your money back.

I got MECOOL M8S PRO + with OEM firmware: 20170919.150557.V0619 and does not hanging after boot.

              Hi Magendaz,

in the firmware 20171001, it is specified :
              - Added support for all HID devices (e.g. remotes, gamepads, etc.) on latest Nougat firmware for Nexus Player, NVIDIA Shield TV & Xiamoi Mi Box

I plugged a PS3 sixaxis controller (with USB cable, since bluetooth doesn't work, even with a bluetooth dongle), but it behaves like if nothing is plugged. (except that lsmod lists a device which corresponds to the ID of the PS3 controller)
Would there be limitations, or are you aware of a procedure to follow to have it working ?
I installed sixaxis enabler. but no result.
Would it be that it simply doesn't work with that king of gamepad....?!

Anway thanks for the effort of providing an regularly updated firmware.

I have two generic USB gamepads here that behave the same way: the d-pad works fine but all the buttons do the same action.

For example, in Ducktales Remastered, all buttons make the character only jump.

Will netflix still work after flashing this "stock Android TV rom"?

The stock ROM allows me to watch netflix in HD flawlessly but i don't like the stock ROM ui.

                  • Added additional options (Reboot & Sleep) to global action menu that displays when you press and hold the Power button.
                  • Resolved permissions issue with legacy Android TV Remote service, the one that works without Bluetooth.

Well, you can update using the OTA update (.zip file) in TWRP or using the burn image (.img file) in USB Burning Tool. I'm not a big fan of Burn Card Maker (a.k.a. BootcardMaker), but that might work for you too.

                    Changelog (20171216):
                    • Updated to latest M8S Pro+ OEM firmware (20171128.111200.V0928)
                    • Updated to TWRP Recovery 3.2.1-0 using latest OEM kernel
                    • Latest build from Open GApps (20171216)
