You may well have a good SEC 701 - The warning is to test with an OEM Update first and then, if OK, carry on with whatever you may wish to experiment with (at your own risk of course).
Finally try to update whith 20171001 OTA package, and it works like a charm !!! great !!

    Thanks!!

On M8S+ Pro, WIFI is NOT working under LibreElec, probbably there is no drivers for wifi card in it.

Hi @Magendanz. I have ported myself a Google cast, but when I choose the tv box to transfer have toast notice, that it is impossible to reproduce
You deleted version TvStock of 20170815. Could you upload again for me, there is a working Google cast?

No, Google Cast has never fully functioned. Only limited use cases from the Chrome browser would work. We still don't understand why. (However, I take some comfort in seeing that VideoStrong is struggling with the same issue since bundling the Google Cast Receiver on their latest OEM firmware releases.)

So I was just able to update my box (eMMC 5.1, 20170829 original firmware) to the latest TVStock. The problem (at least in the case of my box) seems to be the bootloader, either it cannot be successfully overwritten, or it doesn't work with the bootloader in the latest update. I modified the update_script of update_M8S_PRO+-V0619_TVStock-20171001.zip to skip writing the bootloader and now it works flawlessly.

The bootloader on version from 20170815 was 1200KB, then on version 20170829 it was 2048KB, and now in 20170919, it's only 880KB. I think either the latest bootloader isn't compatible with the eMMC 5.1 module, or it's not being able to completely overwrite the previous bootloader leaving us with a corrupt booloader.

That 2048K size on the bootloader is an artifact of how I created the burn package. Since I started with a raw partition dump, I had to determine where the unused blocks started. Looking in a hex editor, I saw zeros after 2048K...and so that's where I started trimming. Any earlier, and I risked concatenating the bootloader, and that would be disastrous. The truth is that I probably could have started trimming around 880K, but the end of the used blocks wasn't obvious. I thought it better to play it safe.

can you give us your bootloader?
          i have a defective box...

Is your box currently running 20170829.121614.V0321 or is it not working at all?

Does the light turn blue when you turn it on? If so, try putting the following two files (dtb.img and recovery.img) in the root of an SD card and put the card in your box. Then unplug your box, press the reset button on the front and plug it back in while keeping the reset button pressed. If it loads TWRP recovery then you can flash the update from there.

                    Anybody using this app : https://github.com/ITVlab/TvAppRepo ?

It adds a shortcut of any normal sideloaded apps to leanback.

It always fails on my box.

                    UPDATE : Now works fine.

Wanted to do a factory reset in Android but would this remove the DRM-Keys or destroy any partition or make any damage??

Obviously "wipe data" in TWRP doesn't delete well for me, because not all the stuff is deleted, for example the wallpapers i downloaded are still there!!! Or kodi has automatically all the addons i added before wipe data.

No, you can't wipe the factory keys with a factory reset. TWRP has a feature that wipes data while preserving the media folder. This removes the installed apps and their settings while keeping any user files you may have on the device. If you want a more thorough wipe, you can click Wipe in TWRP and then click Advanced.

So I am totally new to all this and flashing Roms. I just ordered a MS8 Pro+ / newest version without the reset switch:

I have a few basic questions:

                      1) From what I read (and given I have no reset switch), do I simply load the ROM by changing the ROM name to update.zip, place it on a microsd card, go into OTA update function on the stock firmware and select wipe data.? Is that it and best way to do this?

                      2) Second, I understand this ROM is Android TV based, so I also understand that I need to side load apps. With this ROM, can side loaded apps be added to the base menu?

                      3) Again, since this is not Android (but Android TV), am I going to run into issues with non-Android TV apps or does this ROM help with that? I need to run an OpenVPN app that is not architected for Android TV and has to be side loaded I presume.

                      4) Finally, does the minix neo a2 lite remote work OK with this ROM or do I need to do something special to get it to work?

Thanks for the input / help.

Yes, you've got the update procedure down. With this ROM, non-ATV apps can easily be installed from the browser using a site like APKMirror.com. If they don't have the LEANBACK_LAUNCHER or LEANBACK_SETTINGS category set in their manifest, they'll just show up in the App Drawer.

This ROM has some important fixes that allow the action bar to function on ATV, which was previously a blocking issue for many non-ATV apps. This doesn't guarantee that it will work with all apps designed for phone and tablet, but the odds increase substantially.

As for the aftermarket remote, I really can't speak to that because I don't have the hardware myself. Others may be able to provide more info, but I'm pretty confident that only the ORM IR remote will be able to do a cold power-up, since that's hardcoded in the bootloader.

Thanks for such a quick reply! If I want to try a different ROM, do I simply follow the same steps I outlined in "1" or now that the new ROM is loaded, do I need to follow an alternate or perhaps safer procedure? Thanks again.

Edit - I presume that the format of the card should be fat32?

Yes, FAT32 is the way to go. From my ROMs, I have you install future updates via TWRP. This is probably less user-friendly than the UPDATES app bundled in the OEM firmware, but that app seems so crude that I've just can't bear to feature it so visibly in the user interface. I'm working on a more elegant solution.

Hi thanks for this works well but i do get Google Search Has stopped error anyway to stop this happening ?

just found if i keep the back butto held the error comes up

how do you install TWRP so can reset/install in future the reset in rom menu doesnt work

                      Thanks again

Yes, that's just the "feature" that brings up voice assist on long press of the back button. Unfortunately, it's only supported on the watch platform. I've already disabled this on M8S Pro and M8S Pro L ROMs, and will get it in the next M8S Pro+ refresh.
                    Working...
