Unfortunately I'm having no luck with Kodi. I've installed the latest version of Kodi from the play store (17.6) but I'm not getting HD audio passthrough. All DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD HR files passthrough as simple DTS, while TrueHD files are decoded as Multichannel 5.1 and sent through to my receiver.

Wondering if there's something I'm missing? My Kodi settings on expert mode don't have TrueHD and DTS-HD reciever settings as seen here - http://50.28.19.13/~vidabox/kb/admin...reaming_12.jpg

However, they switched from the QCA9377 to the BCM4335 wireless chipset, so WiFi and Bluetooth don't work on any of my M8S PRO L boxes.

My strategy was to just pull over the latest QCA9377 kernel and init.amlogic.wifi.rc, repacking the build image using the usual procedure. However, this results in a hang after the logo screen. No matter what I did, the old kernel would always fail to load, and the new kernel is missing the kernel compatibility layer that the QCA9377 uses through compat.ko.

Does anyone have a newer OEM firmware release for the M8S PRO L SKUs that used the old QCA9377 wireless chipset? The latest I can find is 20180205.111652.V0928.
hi Magendanz glad your on the case with this new rom version.a lot of people were caught out by trying to put your great custom roms onto their new boxes without realising that mecool/videostrong had made changes to the motherboard hardware.namely using different wifi module.this caused them to lose wifi and bluetooth.i was able to help by uploading a backup of my box so they could at least return to stock.since no options where available to download stock rom for latest board.i think the rom you have with the qca 9337 wifi chip was the latest before they made the change.if it is any help i believe the new module supports ap6335 ap6255 and ap4335 at least, but not 9337.hence the headache they have created.hope you can resolve this issue.i know i am looking forward to the Magendanz Magic as are many others.

Sorry that's not my device, that's just a random image from google to illustrate the extra settings that I don't see in my Kodi.

Are you using the default stock rom or the Magendanz from this thread?

Using latest stock rom.Magendanz custom ROMs won't work on latest mecool m8pro l boxes because the wi-fi module was changed.

Do a factory reset, there must be something wrong with your installation. All versions of Kodi, SPMC, CoreELEC, etc. have HD audio natively on these Mecool M8S Pro and Pro L boxes, using the stock firmware or modded firmware........

Hmmm... its a new box on the latest stock firmware, arrived from gearbox a few days and ran the latest April OTA update. I've done a few more tests and getting interesting results. VLC is the only player I've tried that is successfully passing DTS-HD variations through. All the others (Kodi, MX Player) only passthrough the DTS core. Strangely MX Player is passing through TrueHD 5.1 successfully but not TrueHD 7.1.

Could you do me a favor and quickly double check DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR & DTS:X files from here - https://thedigitaltheater.com/index.php/dts-trailers/ - with MX Player and let me know what your results are. Do you get full DTS-HD passed through to your reciever of just the DTS core like I am getting?

I'm still on stock as well, I received one of the new L boxes a few days ago.

Using my Chrome browser in my "L" box, I went to you link and downloaded a couple of the videos. They started playing as a streaming file, instead of a dedicated downloaded file. I tested with MX Player Pro and as you stated, it only played the core DTS, and not DTS HD. Tested again using VLC, same thing, DTS core only.

Out of curiosity, since I just installed this version and had not tested Kodi yet, I ran a test. I use the Alpha version of Kodi and tested my Avatar Blueray rip in MKV container and my Denon AVR shows DTS-HD MA.

Are you testing it as a downloaded file or streaming......

Edit: downloaded it from my Windows computer and copied it to a pen drive. Inserted pen drive into my "L" box and tested the file.
Using VLC player, it played in multi-channel
Using MX Player Pro, again, it only played the DTS core
Using Kodi, it play in DTS-HD MA.

That is what your problem is streaming does not pass through high end audio.you need to test using downloaded hd audio test files.

Oops. There's one with LS? Is it the oldest model? BTW, the new Youtube app from the TV play store sucks. It will be killed once you leave the app. Any recommendations? I've tries a lot, to name a few, SmartYoutube, New Pipe. None is ideal to be honest.

Sorry I really should have been more specific. I have indeed been testing on downloaded files, on a USB stick plugged into the box. The URL I gave was just the source of those test files so we could run identical tests.

I'm getting results similar to clarkss12's tests above with the exception being that I'm actually getting DTS-HD passthrough on VLC and none on Kodi. He is seeing the reverse. Have you been able to run the same tests? What results are you seeing?
