That means there is no recovery on your box. There is only one thing you can do.

Take the recovery img and put it in sdcard. (Try with both recoveries individually)
Put sdcard in box slot.
Unplug the box.
Look behind it there is an AV slot. If you use a flashlight you will notice a small button inside it, usually on the bottom side. take a pin and press that button. The trick is you will feel in your fingers a small click. I am sure you have tried this but you have not felt that click. Try to get that click, that will tell you that you have pressed that button.

If you succeed in the above endeavor then, press and hold that button and apply power cord simultaneously. Hold that button for 5 seconds. And you WILL boot into twrp. If you dont, try the second img in the other zip.

You can try this also, in the terminal, type "reboot bootloader". The box will reboot, but you wont see anything on screen, the console light will be red. Then connect your usb wire with laptop and open adb shell. type, "fastboot devices". If you get a response, box id gets detected, then you can flash any img with fastboot flash command. Try these methods and reply with what happens. Good luck

YOu put the img file that I have given link of in my previous post. Its only img no zip, put it in sdcard. dont put it in any folder.

You are not flashing the recovery, you are booting into it temporarily. After your work is done, and you remove sdcard, and try this method again, it will not boot into any twrp or stock because there isnt anything there to boot. The box will work normally.

There is your restore option in twrp also, you should save your backups somewhere safe and restore when you need.
And disburse this knowledge freely, there are others who need help too

Hi guys! I bought a H96Max X2 about a month ago, with 8.1 Android root enable (build u211-user 8.1.0 OPM1.101019.011 20181228 release-keys). Easily I installed the TWRP Recovery over the Stock Recovery flashing the .img file after rebooting from SD card. Now, this morning I flashed the update via PC (build X96Max_V311_20190302-1355) and after setting the device I tried to flash the TWRP over the Stock again but it was impossible. I suspect that now the device has no Recovery Partition but this is not a problem for me because the TWRP works fine even from SD card.

But I have a couple of question:

1) It's possible to extract only the Rom (System / Vendor / Data etc) from the .img update file and flash it via TWRP?
2) The License used in the USB Burning Tool are necessary for every Rom, even Porting or Custom?

1. Extraction is possible but flashing only that is not.
If you have x96max rom and want to flash twrp, and if you can boot twrp from sdcard, then get the ota recovery zip and flash it via bootable twrp. IT WILL STICK. Never tried it so I dont know if your partitions will sustain it. Why do you need to flash twrp when you can boot and use it? Use the box for enjoyment, not for experiment. Thats my motto.

2. License is necessary for every rom. Once you install license, you can use it for every flash. No need to redo the license install.
