Hi, I am using finless 1.8 since I bought this device. It's a great rom but a bit slow sometimes. Now I'm ready to go to qs3 or maybe kitkat 4.4.2 by Wasser. I'm using beyond xbmc. Which rom should I go for? Quickshot v3 or Kitkat 4.4.2 1.03 by Wasser. I'm really looking forward to hear from you all.

The 3fm has nothing to do with Cifs, it has to do with HLS, something that I am working on fixing.

I asked you to try this so I could compare Roms, never mind.

Arhim was quoting a post from Wasser about him trying to mount CIFS. You quoted that post of his with info about HLS, which in Arhim's context is not right

i have tested some hls streamimg examples von apple and it seems to work for me, but i need someone to comfirm that.

But it seems noone really has interesse. It's a pity!

Hi Wasser,

That last statement is not really fair, to be honest (no offense intended). In this and other topics, there are numerous reports from people stating that Streaming app X or Streaming app Y do not work. And I myself have posted several times that HLS does not really work well.

And that your ROM is not the only one in which it doesn't work. That goes for most other RK3188-based ROM's.

So I do think there is interest in this subject. Even if people do not realize it is HLS they need when complaining about bad video in their favorite app.

So I have a couple of use cases, too:

* download the "3fm" app (from dutch NPO) from the play store. It should not be geographically limited. Try to open a visual radio stream (camera icon). Android will refuse to open the stream with an error. Try it on a normal Android smart phone (htc, samsung, etc.) and it will work.

* go to www.3fm.nl and do the same (click the camera icon). Stream will open with very low quality and after about 20-30 seconds, you will notice it will try to buffer for a new stream, but hang.

The same goes for the app of commercial network RTL ( "rtl xl", don't know if you have access to that ). Commercials will playback fine but as soon as the real stream needs to play, it hangs.

You are right, but so is wasser. You fundamentally conclude that HLS is the reason why people dont have good quality in streaming apps (oem), i think it would be very unfair to ask for wasser to test every app that is out there. It is true however, that it is up to us to identify those annoyances but we cant really except such devotion from a person who is really just trying to brew a working firmware for you.

Reporting is all fine, i've reported Lockscreen not working in 0.94, guess what, wasser took the gamble to fix multiuser in that shot as well. Things are definitely noted, but Android is fragmented enough to take feedback from other roms and use it here. The whole thread had problems identifying what kernel was fixing the ethernet and sound back in the beginning, but trust me we made it out all through communicating.

A lot of people here are lucky for having attention towards XBMC, wasser values the XBMC users as they are really the majority here (air mouses too), but a lot of feedback was given as well and a lot of testing was done too, all i can say is ask for the same, deliver detailed information on whats causing and propose detailed information on how to fix it.

As you said it yourself, no offense intended, it is hard to know the tone of the written words.

It is not 'every app'. It is two specific apps. They do not work in any rom, and they are a great testcase. If these two works, i bet that 'every app' will work too.

.... from other roms? Hmm, i remember you and someone else going all ape shit on me, only because i suggested that updates and files should be posted in the first post. This was 'feedback from other roms', because that is the way that all the other devs are doing it. Still you did not hestitate to practically call me a heretic and cast me out from the village in disgrace, like a homosexual in Russia telling me how wrong i was to 'compare roms like that'.

This sounds good, but i tried it! I reported about the ethernet boot-loop, and it was like no one believed me. Everybody told me it worked just fine. I had to test with several roms, i even had to go buy a brand new router just to prove that it was not me, my router, the routers firmware, my network, my IP settings on the Minix box, and so on, and so on. And i gave VERY clear test cases from the very beginning, and i also offered to post logs and whatnot. I would do ANYTHING to make This rom boot normally with ethernet cable.... So you make it sound a LOT easier that it actually is.

....want another example? Well, this guy, eymey, explicitly tell about two exact apps that does not work with HLS streaming, very 'detailed information', and he even tells that it is a general problem across different roms. He is doing the exact thing that you tell him to, and still he is judged.


Luckily, Wasser is a mature and respectful guy, who appreciates all of our feedback. And he is doing a VERY great job with this rom. So great that i even donated to support further development. Wasser can easily filter out the crap posts himself. He does not need 'police' to 'correct' our behaviour.

So, now i have to make the same disclaimer: I don't want to argue, but please seriously consider how you come across when being this arrogant. We ALL try to help in the best way we can. We ALL have the same goal!

I appreciate your defending Wasser and please believe me if I say that in no way I am trying to attack Wasser. And maybe I was not that clear in my post in this thread but I never have said that I fundamentally blame lack of HLS support for many streaming apps not working. I only express what I experiencing: On devices/ROM's where a simple m3u8 streaming video on a website (like www.3fm.nl ) fails in the browser, most streaming apps also do not work.

@Flemming, it seems you have an open wound with me, if i can close it down, i would like to ask for an apology, being accused for arrogance really annoys me sometimes, but as you said, i do not want to argue, besides, having posts deleted is a sign of "doing things wrong" so i'd rather don't put myself in that position, i prefer not taking things personal, and i really mean it when i ask for your apology, but please understand that sarcasm like "any" "all" and "some" apps are more arrogant then my chosen words, they show more importance in that "you" were right rather then the truth. "useless chatter" offended you if i am not wrong, and it is still generally considered useless if it does not help the thread.

@eymey, i only reacted with good will TBH, wasser has had way too many minor requests, but i guess things have come to the details part.

Now on topic.

i havent updated since v1.0.1, the device has had only two intentional restarts and has been ON ever since (10 days???), it worked flawlessly through a 50 GB 1080p marathon of movies, and i have noticed that sometimes there are image freezes (sounds works on background) though this strangely comes over only when i load 720p files
