How did you root yours, with a 3G dongle?

How can you make phone calls with a tablet?

yes i used the 3g dongle method. and i made sure the dongle i got has call capabilities, so im going to remove the wifi chip (check) and add a hub inside (check) then ill reattach the chip to the antenna circuit and wire the usb to the hub (currently using a wifi dongle, havent re attached the chip) from there i plan on adding bluetooth and gps if i can find a gps usb dongle.

but the hub works with both wifi and 3g plugged in it. so i can currently use both while still charging in my truck which is phenomenal because i downloaded a tether app. hehehe.

next is to extend the back a tad, as i can no longer re attach the back. (ill probably use Popsicle sticks because thats how i roll) and wire the wifi and 3g directly to the hub rater than plugged in. might have a physical wifi and 3g switch because im reallllly bored) and a MUCH bigger battery.

the tricky part is adding the phone software to the rom. ill probably work on a CM9 or 10 rom with phone built in. i dont need to make phone calls very often so that can wait a little

Setup google voice account in your google and get a APP called talkatone! You now can get and recieve calls in the USA. There is also another way but it is a bit more complicated.

Google search FREE VOIP. You will find some. I use http://sip2sip.info
Now this service will only allow you to call other VOIP numbers. It does not give you PSTN to land lines.
Then go to www.ipkall.com and get a free land line phone number and attach it to your VOIP account
Now people can call you from land lines.
To make outbound land line calls you still need google voice and forward the putbound to your ipkall number.

ell the 3g card supports sms and call so im going to work on getting those supported natively first. i dont wanna link a service to a service to another service when i can just use the minutes on my att account. ive already got a metric ton of rolover minutes

by the way whats the current sum-up of the bootloader progress if you dont mind putting it in a nutshell. have you been able to make a complete backup that is restorable for the 8 inch you all have been working on? also i noticed that you guys keep saying there was no google play on your device, there was on mine. stock. would a dump of the next7p-12-8g that i havebe of any help? ive only encountered one app that wouldnt download. if theres anything i can do to help im willing.

Make unlimited phone calls to ANY phone in USA with tablet

using Groove ip and google voice together. Just another option.

Should work with our tablets. It worked with my droid x2 that had a bad esn and no service except wifi.

Maybe talkatone is better. I haven't tried it. Groove ip may not text. Talkatone page says it texts also. Cool for texters.

If I'm correct, you can dump your rom, Finless can use your rom to make a new rooted rom that other Next7P12-8G owners (like myself) can flash onto our Nextbooks so we can have root too. Since no one I know has a freaking working 3g dongle!

Hey finless, been watching this thread as I got a next8p12 a few days ago from Big Lots. How's the status on getting a ROM? If need be I can also provide a ROM dump if needed(That is if I can root my device..)

Like I said in the previous post I got mine at Big Lots a few days ago. It's a AMlogic chipset(AML8726-M3 listed on the box) I just got mine rooted as of a minute ago, Now the question is. How do I dump the ROM to help assist Finless if needed?

I believe someone already dumped a rom for Finless, but he had trouble extracting the part he needed from it. If you read back through the thread, Finless (and probably others too) posted instructions for dumping the rom.

My tabs are both identified as AML8726-M3. I wonder what is different about the AML8726-ME3?

Yeah, I remember reading about that. Thing is I'm not very good with linux and had no clue how he dumped it exactly as he didn't go into the fine details about it. Also Mine is a AML8726-M3 like yours, Minor typo on my part. I'm willing to try dump it if it will help..

Small Update

Well I got my Unbuntu 12 Live USB going and downloaded the Android SDK, Now I just need some help figuring out how to get ADB working so I can run backup as per Finless said in post #494, Figured I should get it backed up before I start messsing with Gapps and such, Also I'll probly install Titanium Backup and get a backup that way too. Anyone with some Linux background to help me out here?

I have an Intenso TAB 814 - yinfang M805NC is printed on the board. Yinfang is Nextbook too, just another brand, also 8" Amlogic.

There is at first firmware position Internet device M805ND which should be the same unit.

If you download the android sdk files and ABD Driver you can access the device by USB and ABD Commands (this is working at windows too). Since I have JB 4.1.1 JRO03C please advise how to rip the rom, it is Amlogic too

Another try is the Total Commander 8, if you have installed the ADB Driver there is an ADB plugin for the Total Commander and you can access easily the files, but I don't know which files you need ...

Bob, went and bought a new tab yesterday seeing as the nextbook8p12 is rooted, or well partially rooted for me anyways. Installed esfileexplorer, titanium backup, tried to get full root itsa no go. I think I know why eegor`s rom is locked, in the dev folder is where mtd is, all the files in dev are at zero. i tried to change a few perms on the files it said no.. heres a screen shot .. https://www.dropbox.com/s/coa37vjloq...all%20root.PNG ..
in order to get full root, am I going to have to run the update zip from that other tab? I kinda dont want to because it will come up as a different tablet because of the different build props.
