So I just picked up a NextBook Premium 8se from walmart the other day. Seamed like a steal for the price but other then the 3G USB dongle trick,. and a few buggy roms (no offence) I'm having a hell of a time finding solid information on rooting this thing.. I tried the Italians patch, but it hangs on the nextbook splash screen (the green startscreen)..
this is what I've done
*Formatted (FAT32) SanDisk 8GB microSDHC
*Placed the contents of PATCH.zip into the root directory of SD
*Powered off device
*Inserted SD
*Held vol- and Power until splashscreen appeared > then released.
All it does it hang on the first splash screen :/
My current set up is as follows:
Windows 7 Premium for sd prep
SanDisk 8GB microSDHC
Nextbook NX008HD8G with WiFi 8" Touchscreen Tablet PC
Technical Specifications:
1.5GHz ARM Cortex A9 Dual-Core processor
1GB DDR3 of system memory and 8GB on-board storage memory
8.0" touchscreen, 1024 x 768 resolution
Built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi
Additional Features:
Back 2MP webcam and front 0.3MP webcam with microphone, auto-focus and digital zoom
Mini HDMI port
8GB on-board storage memory, additional memory via microSD card slot
Rechargeable battery
Software and Applications:
Android 4.1 OS (Jelly Bean)
Google Play, Email, Alarm, Photo Viewer, Nook Ebook Store, YouTube, Google Maps
Web browser
Music Player
Media Formats: Popular media formats
walmart.com/ip/Nextbook-8-Tablet-with-8GB-Memory-and-Google-Mobile-Services/23554123
NOTE: I am able to load recovery using vol- and Power as long as the SD card is NOT inserted..
Nextbook Premium 8se is really locked down and this attempts to load a costume recovery from external sd to flash the update since the company refuses to release the keys and the stock recovery will only load signed update, but like i said it hangs at slash...:/ what am i doing wrong here... is my device not compatible with this patch????

Crackle and rooting...

Crackle does not work, even speedtest, none of vpn app.
I think company is misleading customers about Play store compatibility.
Could somebody please tell step by step rooting method with 3g modem ?
It works fine, just because the Play Store says it is not compatible does not mean they are right...
As far as rooting, the Next7P12-8G needs to have the init-pppd.sh file modified and files copied to the root of the internal sdcard, then once modified, plug in the 3G modem once it connects to the network with an active network connection the script will have already run, copying the files to the root, I have not done this yet, but others have and reported this worked for them.

I bought a 7P12-8G last week at a very reasonable price from Wal-Mart, my first foray using any Android device. Man, I wish I had read this thread before buying, as I can't stand all the bloatware and limited functionality (although the tablet is quite nice otherwise). I too discovered that the Play Store lists many apps as incompatible, but I installed them anyway from other sources (http://www.androiddrawer.com/ is a good one) and they work just fine. Now if only I had a 3G modem...

Thank you Jds for trying, I googled " Next7P12-8G init-pppd.sh" and it shows pages from this thread only.
Will do more reading but so far cannot figure how to modify init-pppd.sh, what files, where from, where to copy.
Regarding androiddrawer.com I got 3.0.6 crackle from there, app opens you can only browse movies and crashes when trying to play any.
And any vpn app from play store or elsewhere causes tablet to reboot.
I got tablet from March boat and wrote nextbookusa few days ago about this but so far no response and would be surprised to get any.
The fact the they somehow locked? rom but allowed to edit init-pppd.sh is suspicious, i bet that was on purpose to track "offenders" :-)
Website is confusing about models looks like they do not have any new firmware for this year serial numbers.

However the NEXT8P12 has an even easier method for rooting the tablet thanks to the Italy method...
This has been reported to work on both tablets (From Nov/Dec 2012, can't speak for March 2013)...

Root w/out 3G Modem!!
Hi all, managed to root my Walmart Nextbook 8 tablet without relying on the 3G modem hack. First you'll need this One Touch Root app made by Bin4ry. Now this One Touch Root app doesn't exactly work as advertised by the author for this tablet, but bear with me on this.
Run the app on your desktop and choose option 1 Normal method. Follow its instructions and go through its routine. After it rebooted for me I checked to see if I had root and got errors from root apps about not being able to get root. If you get the same don't worry just yet. Run "ADB Shell" at the command line on your desktop and in the shell type "su". If you get root (symbolized by the # sign) then you're halfway there! Copy over su and Superuser.apk to your sdcard then in your root shell goto /system/xbin and remove su then copy su from the sdcard with this command "cp /sdcard/su /system/xbin" and follow up with the command "chmod 6755 su". Install Superuser.apk using Astro then reboot. Now you should have root on your tablet!
Sorry if explanation is bad, its late at night and I'm just past my balmer peak.
