Hey. Bought MK808b. From Amazon, from the company 'Afunta'. It is not the same as the otherdevices people have listed from this seller.

It uses the single AP6xx wifi Bluetooth chip (not the mediatek ones), but it doesn't look the same as the other devices people have listed. The circuit board configuration is a bit different. I have attached the pictures below.

It came with 4.2.2 installed. I 'think' it has root privaleges already, as I installed USB OTG helper which flagged 'root access granted'.

My issue is that it runs rather slow, even when doing basic stuff. Wifi is not fantastic, although does work ok. Streaming from BBC Iplayer doesnt work well.

It appears to support 1080P screen resolutions ok, although trying to play media at 1080P doesnt work well. the USB OTG port doesnt seem to support any of my HDD etc, they mount are recognised them immediately unmount themselves.

I'd like to try a different ROM, but not sure which will work. Advice would be great as it looks different to the other models pictures so far!

Thanks, I should have looked through the entire thread, do you or anyone know how to completely disassemble it, because I don't want to break anything.

When the case is open like in your picture, just lift the board out, it is not fixed in there. Just be careful with the antenna that is glued to the case.

            Hey,

Can you help me identify my board? pic is in the post 2 above.

it has the AP6xxx wifi and BT chipset, but the board configuration differs from the others. Will the Finless 1.7 for the AP6xxx chipset work with this? Or is there another way I can determine which Roms will work with my board.
It would be nice if I can assume all ROMs for the AP6 chipset and RK3066 will work

            cheers

Sorry, i have never seen your board before. I would suggest you try to backup your stock rom and then try to flash different custom roms.

I have always used CWM (generally not with this device) to create Nandroid backups.

I understand if I replace the recovery with CWM and use the backup, I will not be able to use the update.img flash technique to load the custom ROM? is this correct?

Also, with my Galaxy s2, once you went to version 4.2.2 or above, you could not use CWM to flashback to version 4.1 or earlier. You would have to reflash an earlier version of CWM, then reload recovery without booting ROM, flash earlier Kernel, then the older ROM to downgrade.

I'm guessing I would need to do a similar process with this device if I use CWM.

Is there a straightforward method to make a full flashable backup of my current ROM without using CWM?
I doubt I will be able to get a copy of the ROM from the manufacturer, although looking at the kernel and ROM on my device, the version and description is very very similar to that oft he 4.2.2 that comes on the Rikomagic 802iiis..

                thanks,

You are right, switching between Android versions does not work via CWM.
There are 2 other methods to backup your rom:

Is there any Stable , non Framedropping , Wifi , BT and RK Remote working Rom for the 808b type Player on top of page 4 (the "Amazon" type) ...

                      ???

I flashed feeled 50 or 60 different Roms ... every with another issue (Framedropping , non-working , reboot while connecting RK-Remote , non BT , non Wifi ... 1080p Kernel would be fine but every stable 720p Kernel would be better then no stable one) ...

                      Thx for your Help

Can variations be identified by the OUI database of MAC addresses?

Instead of opening the device, can anything be gleaned from looking up the MAC addresses of bluetooth and WiFi in the IEEE.org OUI mac address database? I have an MK808B that I got pretty much as soon as they were released. The bluetooth MAC base address of 00:22:F4 is from AMPAK technologies. The Bluetooth MAC 00:43:4f oddly is not listed. If it turned out that the non clone B variant always has 00 22 f4 it might be a good shortcut to avoid opening the case.

I am pretty certain that this is the original SunVel firmware:

Despite my device having exactly the same Mediatek WiFi and BT chipset as several other devices, my Bluetooth would only turn on with Bob's SunVel clone image and the image above.
WiFi worked fine, but not bluetooth.
One other thing. Although it is partially obscured on my image, the label on the board actually says:
                        SunVel 1808
Not 808 as I have seen posted.
The exact chips on the daughterboard are:
                        MT6622N - Bluetooth 3.0
                        MT5931SA - WIFI B/G/N

MAC address's can be altered so it isn't going to be a consistent way to identify a device. Opening a device usually only takes a few moments as was shown in the video that was linked to early on in this thread.

I don't know of a good reason the manufacturer would want to alter the mac address, but regardless, I did look at that video and it does look darned easy, so I'll go crack my case. Where do I find a guide to flashing Finless 1.7 and is that what I need in order to get TUN.KO for OpenVPN? I'm worried I'm going to lose some kind of functionality here and not be able to reverse the process. I still cannot search the FAQ for reasons unknown. I get "Not found" no matter what I search.

MAC address's are suppose to be unique for each device so each one can be identified within a network... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address for more details on the protocol. If multiple devices were to all use the same address... the network traffic directed at the MAC wouldn't be able to tell which device it should go to.

Ok... having said that... Most mass produced network adapters, when they are made, just have a certain range of MAC address's assigned to them so it isn't unheard of for two of the same make/model to end up with the same MAC. Because of this... the MAC is often just held in firmware instead of being hard coded so the end user can ( if needed ) alter a MAC that happens to be duplicated.

Really cheap companies cheat on the number of MAC address's they assign even more than what I just mentioned. They sometimes even don't worry about changing MAC's on devices that are not expected to have more than one in a network... This is very common with the TV Sticks like we are using and it does cause networking issues because of this.

While I'm very familiar with this subject concerning standard Windows based PC's... I'm not as familiar with these TV Sticks and where the MAC is being assigned... ie in the ROM, the kernel the ROM is using or other area... I have however read about this being a problem that comes up often because they aren't following the protocol as they should and have unique MAC's on each device.
