Soneone please test Kodi with new Mediacodec Surface video acceleration
Libstagefright has now been removed from Kodi officially.
Test
- Video playback 1080p, 4k
- Passthrough, HD Audio(enable more speakers and HD Audio in Kodi settings, also HDMI Bitstream in Android settings)
- Audio in sync, out of sync
Is official Kodi now finally working fully on RK3288 devices or are there still problems
eg. no passthrough, hd audio not working, audio out of sync?

Try testing Chimera 4K and Tearsofsteel 23.976 test videos.
Also try just with normal stereo sound and no passthrough.
What does it say when you press 'o' to show video information, are there dropped or skipped frames, high cpu usage?
Just want to eliminate if it's a firmware issue or certain Kodi setting.
For me it plays quite smooth but only using stereo sound.

Video playback across the board is pretty much excellent.
SPDIF passthrough is intermittent.
There were audio sync issues across a range of files (Tears of steel 1080p is a good example), which were slight but still noticeable and this was the case regardless of sound output device and combination of Mediacodec/Surface combinations.
So no, official Lodi not RK3288 compatible yet.

And what about Rockchip Kodi on RK3288?
It exists as soon as you play a video, but not on my own RK3288 ROM
But now I'm trying to make my own Kodi.

Yes, overall I would say better then SPMC but only from the perspective that it can play more kinds of files.
By Rockchip Kodi, I'm not sure which specific version you are referring to.
With the version that Wasser produced for the R68, I am hopeful that adaptations can be made to make it as good for the R28/R89.
I wonder how the Zidoo X6 Custom Kodi would work on this box.

Rockchip Kodi(eg. in Tronsmart RK3368 R68 firmware) and Wasser Kodi just exits as soon as you play a video, but on my custom RK3288 ROM they both work fine.
Audio also seems a bit more in sync as with the nightly Kodi with Mediacodec Surface rendering.
I will post updated details in a new thread.

I'm waiting for an official Tronsmart ROM update for the 100Mb model before testing any bundled Kodi.
I didn't notice any difference in audio sync with Mediacodec and Mediacodec Surface myself.
Yes the ROM's will have a bearing on some Kodi functionality.
I feel that we are close to getting what was expected out of the box over a year ago and would prefer to see my RK3288 have perfect playback over the RK3368 as I believe that it is still a better box overall.

3.0.1feedback
SPDIF turned on:
MX Player with custom codec
Flawless playback of pretty much everything, with sound coming through perfectly.
There is a slight delay before any Dolby/DTS is heard but after that it is perfect.
The only 2 files that had Dolby that had issues were .M2TS where there was sound but just one continuous tone (these were files with Dolby Truesound, so probably not expected to play audio).
Neither of the 2 10 bit files would play at all, just giving a black screen.
The only surprise was that Jellyfish 100/120Mbps files showed heavy stuttering, although of course nobody is likely to be playing files anywhere near those frame rates apart from in a test environment.
The only HEVC file that had heavy stuttering was a .TS file but that has never played well on RK3288 (did play well on the RK3368 ROM)
Colour reproduction and depth stunning as usual.
Youtube
The best 1080p playback that I have seen on the RK3288.
BBC iPlayer (Beta)
Perfect playback.
Internal video player
For all the videos that it supports (which is less than MX Player), the same quality results as MX Player.
Wasser Kodi 15.2 (passthrough/DTS, Adjust display refresh rate and Sync playback to display enabled)
A few of things became apparent early on and was consistent throughout playback of all files.
When clicking anywhere on the playback timeline the video would not continue playing until I moved the mouse wheel to seek forwards or backwards and even then it could take a couple of seconds to resume playback. I thought it might be due to me using a new 64Gb NTFS flash drive but neither MX Player or the Internal video player had the issue. I also played files from the internal storage and external SD card but the same issue existed.
When switching playback to sync, this would take around 5 seconds to happen. Audio would start playing after a second but video would take 5 to appear on the TV.
Every few seconds there would be a flash on the screen, sometimes taking up around a third of the screen and at other times a smaller portion at the bottom of the screen. This only happens with Kodi.
Dolby 5.1/DTS audio was flawless across the board.
All 4k files played excellently, although the Chimei-inn file had the stuttering at the point of the revolving plate and any .MP4 4k files would have a slight single moment stutter at the start of playback and then play perfectly.
No 10 bit playback, although I wasn't expecting it to play.
BBB 1080p surround - perfect.
Files with Dolby Truesound did play audio but only as regular stereo (better result than MX Player and not expected to play in full audio glory on my sound bar)
The .TS files that would not play well in MX Player played flawlessly.
The first time that I played 100/120Mbps Jellyfish files there was a brief stutter at the start of playback. On playing them again after an initial playback there was no brief stutter.
Early Morning Mountain Fog PhotoJPEG.mov file had continuous stutter but the .WMV equivalent played perfectly.
When playing the Transformers age of extinction 1080p/5.1 trailer there was a skip in the audio towards the start of the clip. This disappeared after a further play.
All other general test files played without issue and of the streaming sites that I tested, all played perfectly except iPlayer live, where there was a major sync gap between audio and video that was not present on catchup, so likely to be an add-on issue more than anything else.
I'll do the same testing later with default sound selected but fantastic so far.
General ROM usage
As usual, all is very fluid and fast in operation.
Default sound
Results as for SPDIF
HDMI Passthrough
Results as for SPDIF except that Dolby Truesound does play, albeit downscaled as expected.
I'll update this post as I test in different environments.
