So I downloaded the firmware from post 308, put it in a usb thumb drive, insert it in the device, connected the power adapter, then I selected the "Apply update from EXT" option and this is what I got:

So this looks like it is a new firmware update but what went wrong?

Will I have to wait until more people receive this update and then someone get a firmware file for me to fix this?

Maybe they are rolling it out in stages to avoid issues like I'm facing right now, I'm so unlucky!.

clarkss12 can you point him to the correct base or custom rom? If there is any.
Mecool should have the original version somewhere, I don't run the box.

I think he is a sd updateer, not pc flashing.

Do a factory wipe. The one you tried and the factory sent one are probably the same. Probably not guaranteed.
Double check all those funny little numbers to each file.
Some similar devices Can share the same rom, This is probably Not one of those

If you get back to the beginning (when) work on your individualized setup. Then find a way to make a backup of all your apps and settings.
Then run the box, forget the updates until you're more familiar with the process and the contents of each one.
Your Not bricked the way I interpret... But you can be with the Wrong rom.

They are not the same and factory data reset doesn't work, I'm gonna wait to see if more people receives this update, I don't think I will be the only one with this problem.

I meant the original on your box and the one downloaded... Not the OTA.
Can you find the ota in the files you can access ?
Google new update for the model, or use the file string for a search.
Check mecool site.

There is no reset button on this box...

Mecool (videostrong.com) website is useless although I sent an email to them, haven't received any replies yet.

I am not familiar with the km8, I do have a M8S Pro running Guest a non atv rom, and love it well.
Currently hoping for superceleron to breathe his sensibilities into a troublesome magicsee N6max.

The hardwares are decent and even impressive for the cost.
The firmwares are 95% Crap!
The rom developers here make these devices the best they can be

With the KM9 now advertised to ship with Android 9 (Pie), it will be interesting to see if they ship it with the KM8 too. The Amlogic SDK 9.0 supports both S905X and S905X2 chipests.

Will it work for anything? when the firmware was downloaded and the device rebooted, It was apparently applying the update but the word "error" appear almost immediately and then "deleting" appeared, so it looks like there is nothing inside to be installed, I'm really confused about what happened, that's why I hope someone else receive this update and see what happens.

I tried the "reset" button inside the hole at bottom front of the device but it doesn't work, it always goes to recovery mode no matter what I do, my only hope is to wait for an official firmware update file.

In the mean time you can try to install CoreElec 9.0.1 with Kodi Leia 18.1 on SD card, and see if it works. On my KM8 box it works perfectly.

delacosta78, try this firmware that Magendanz provided from this link, post number 198. You will have to use the USB Burning tool to install this firmware. Really easy to do, but you will need a male to male USB cable. If you don't have one, you can make one, using old USB charging cables.

Edit: Just checked again, still no OTA update.

Edit 2: Here is the link to Magendanz's OTA zip file for your box. Just download the file, copy it to a USB pendrive and try to install it from your boot screen, it may work.
