Make sure you get a good cable. Bad cables usually give errors. Get cable from local market where you can exchange easily and get better ones if it doesn't work. Ask for a data cable.

Doesn't matter. You can gain root and also remove root at will. the twrp recovery lets you flash anything to system.

i have the same problem with h96max x2 ... hang and restart a lot of problem and i have change adapter 5v 2a and 5v 3a same problem i have to try almost all firmware same problem because of testing several firmware and changing each time the cable usb i burned the usb port of the h96max and now i flash with the sd card
the only way to fix it is the two firmware "S905X2.HK1_PRO_AP6330_100M_8.1.2019.01.02.13. 58"

work well without problems ...

Use the Amlogic customization tool. Although I am not sure, if the repacked rom will boot or not since I have v 5.5. But updated v 6.0 is available and people report it working.

Also, check vendor/etc folder, there is a file called bootvideo
That is the file you need to replace. I am not sure whether you need mp4 or which format. I would play safe and use an mp4 video. Rename it to remove the .mp4 part. And check permissions of original file before you remove it. You will need to give new video, same permissions. There are apps available to change the video with root.

Please be advised you must know how to flash firmwares, so that you can return to normal if you mess it up. Make a twrp backup just in case.
