I suspect that Pipo has more work to do with their firmware for this and the other Pro series devices. So expect some updates...but I don't know when.

They were putting out new firmware releases about every day for a while (some weren't posted on their site, but were released to customers via their support team.) My latest ROM was based on one of those releases. Since they have patched the firmware and sent it out to users without publishing it to their site, I'm convinced that they are working on an official release, but don't have all of the problems worked out.

Don't loose hope, because my experience is that eventually, Pipo will arrive at a solution that they will release as a final version...then they move on to their next new product.

However, I have seen some manufactures decide that a product was a total fail hardware wise...and they just put out a new product to replace it...and quit supporting the older one altogether. That is what Pipo did with the Old PCB/New PCB M9 Max tablet. So, they aren't perfect...but they are learning from their mistakes.

Since kernel sources have been leaked and tested by Freaktab users...we've found that some features are turned off (like multi-user) in order to mask a problem somewhere else. After I started turning on multi-user in my ROM's...people started experiencing problems and Pipo's answer was that their firmware doesn't support multi-user. It's a way to avoid dealing with a known problem until they can work it out themselves.

Users are having issues with getting bells and whistles like 3G and GPS to work properly. Deep sleep has popped it's head as high demand feature...but clearly Pipo has disabled this feature to keep their 3G functions working.

Lag has improved with the custom kernels now available for these tablets which tweak the clock settings on CPU, GPU and DDR...and some have successfully improved performance by flashing them. Just read the threads in the Pipo section for links to a kernel you can try.

Also, users have found some sneaky ways to defeat the lag (at least on video playback) by restoring the Family Launcher and Kid Launcher from my previous ROM and running the kid launcher in the background. For some odd reason, this fixes video playback lag.

So, I may go ahead an put out my next release, leaving all of that stuff in (again) and let you guys experiment to see what is the sweetest combination to use.

My theory has been, until now...that less is better...so I've tried to remove as much as possible from the stock firmware to improve speed and performance, but I've learned their are some unique dependencies among those removed apps which require them to stay in order for the device to work properly.

While I have a test tablet to work with, I don't have the time to concentrate on it as much as you guys do (because I have a stack of other tablets with the same issues)...so if you find that sweet combination of "keeper apps", and disposable apps which don't do anything but take up space...please let me know. I still want to debloat as much as I can...but leave the "keeper's" to preserve functionality.

I flashed the appropriate file through CWM,
          rebooted,
          used NTPsync to sync time
          then done my GPS test,
I LEFT IT FOR HALF AN HOUR, BE PATIENT,

initial fix took a while but now it locks on within 30 secs, I can see up to 20 sats. Uses up to 10.

Before i flashed the file my GPS did not work at all.

          Good luck folks

try with nova launcher, that solved all riley's slow issues, now it's smooth for me, please let me know

Yes there is, I use No-frills CPU Control (FREE) from Google play.

Just set it for 1.008 GHZ maximum and 312 MHz minimum.
              Set the Governor to interactive.....
Sips power unless it is needed. Sleeps forever and minimal battery use.
All apps are silky smooth and lag free, movies play well.

My Antutu score was 18550 last time I ran it with the CPU set as above, interactive governor seems to bump up the clock when it is needed.

Another trick, if you do not have 3G, is to remove the phone apps that come with the ROM.....

              Good hunting

The first time using the GPS you will need it to run for about 1/2 an hour so it can set your 'home' location.

There is an app named FasterGPS on google play (free) it will set your continent and country which will help the first time home setting quite a bit. Got 12 sattelites in view with 6 in use, inside the house.....

Just remember to backup your information (Data) prior to flashing another ROM....

After the initial fix your GPS will come up rather quickly in any navagation app.....

If you want to try 1.7 GHz or VSync patch let me know. So far these have not worked on any Pipo models

Is there a thread for this???

As a newbie - with the RileyROM - I'll try this.. never used the GPS yet but now trying it for about 6-7 minutes from my terrace, 0 signal (GPS was on, 3G and Wifi off). I hope this half an hour staying and searching will do fine.. I have a simple GPS Test app, hope it's ok for initializing my GPS (no CWM yet).

The GPS is fine, but won't find a fix quickly until you initialize it

Yes, GPS Test is a very good app for it. The time to download the latest satellite almanac is more like 12-15 minutes, but with older GPS systems you needed to be listening at the beginning of the broadcast, so the 30 minutes is worst case scenario. I don't know if Pipo's GPS supports out-of-order piecemeal almanac assembly or not, many other 12 channel GPSs do these days. I think there are better ways other than FastGPS's gps.conf, just use NTPSync yourself while you have coverage. The FastGPS gps.conf solution to speed up the cold start relies on NTP, the "N" standing for Network, so it won't work so well when there is no network available.

It's not the greatest GPS out there, but it is more than adequate to get a fix indoors, on a bus, in your car for navigation.

So you would suggest to restore my original conf file (it's saved), get an NTP client and then if time is set correctly, let the GPS test run for some time and wait.

deep sleep working fine on wifi-only tablet

by the way, deep sleep is working fine for me in RR2.0 on my non-3G M9Pro, monitoring with the BetterBatteryStats app.

                                Speedin up GPS cold starts

I'd suggest to install NTPSync app, sync and check the new offset. I wouldn't bother reverting your conf file now if it is working for you, I'm just saying that it may be unnecessary and not worth the trouble. One advantage might be that the FastGPS app would force a low-ping-time ntp sync every time you start the gps so you don't have to do that manually, but I'm not sure how it the app works after the initial fix is obtained.

For a fast fix it needs two main things: (a) a good idea of where you are, and a Very good idea of what time it is; and (b) a good idea of where all the GPS satellites are right now in the sky. That way it generally knows where to start looking in the sky instead of randomly hunting in the dark for something sending out a signal.

For the idea of where you are you can edit the /system/etc/gpsconfig.xml file (as root, with /system mounted as read-write), for what time it is you can use ntpsync manually or fastgps automatically (but perhaps more work). After your first 2D fix it should remember where you last were and sync the GPS clock to within a micro-second.

For the idea of where the satellites are in the sky you have to download the latest almanac/ephemeris from the GPS satellites, which is what the 12-30 minute wait after first locking onto a satellite is for.
