Taking it apart is simple, but difficult to do without bending or possibly even cracking the front bezel.
It's just a matter of shoving something in the very narrow crack around the side edges between the front bezel and the back cover and sliding it around to pop the tabs loose (don't forget to remove your external sd card first). Most plastic "spudger" tools made for removing electronics cover would be too thick. I managed to use my thumbnail... one of the guitar pick shaped (but thinner corners) spudgers might work too.
The danger here is bending the edges of the front bezel (mine is a little warped now), popping the very thin edge band off of the front bezel (mine is loose in spots now) or cracking the front bezel / touch digitizer or lcd (someone reported breaking theirs).
You don't want the front bezel to come off (it is attached to the digitizer/lcd, which is attached to the main board and battery), you want the back cover to come off of the rest of the assembly.
Also, be careful with the speaker wire. The speaker is attached to the inside of the back cover and the extremely thin speaker wires are soldered to the main board. (I broke my speaker wires and had to resolder them.)
Once apart it is pretty easy to spot the problem (my battery plug was at nearly a 45 degree angle to the connector slot). The battery cables were stretched too tight, with a gap under them. A little pressure in the right spot pushes the cables into the gap between them and the back of the lcd and pulls the plug partway out of the connector.
The best solution would likely be moving the battery a little closer to the main board to give the battery cables some slack... but the battery is glued to the back of the lcd. I don't think it can be pulled off without damaging the soft battery or the lcd and I was afraid to use a heat gun to soften the glue.
I cut small squarish piece of soft plastic scrap material to fit in the gap between the battery and main board where the cables were stretched across the gap so they have less space available to move, which is mostly working, but I think maybe some low temp hot glue to hold the battery plug in the connector might be a better solution. (Haven't tried that yet.)
When done, just line up the buttons and ports with the cover, angle that corner in first, and then gently pop the edges of the cover back on.
