UG802 First experience

Hi all,

First thanks for this ROM. The original ROM the UG802 comes with s totally useless. I am also a former IOS guy and approximately a month ago I got the Nexus 7 (Instead of non existing Ipad Mini). Since then I fall in love with the android. I installed it even on my kid's old Asus EEE PC.

I was following this thread for long time and I was scared about the wifi issue. I guess I am lucky, because I had no wifi issue. But I have to add that my wireless modem is only few feet away. I am powering the UG802 with the TV's USB port (I had no clue that it has one ). I love that it is very "alive" and very responsive. But as I mentioned the original ROM was for me useless, mostly because I bought this for streaming online content and I could not download any of the streaming apps like hulu, netflix or HBOgo.

My audio is off too. I got my UG from Pandawill.

So I did the ROM update the "easy way" to see what is going to happen. Everything went ok, except at the end I got an error message about the launcher. After another restart everything went ok, except that I cannot start the original "Settings" and I cannot adjust the screen. I have a 720p Plasma TV and even with the original ROM I had problem to see it full screen. There was always an edge somewhere off. Now it is pretty off and I cannot adjust it.

I still have an issue with the store. I have to search for apps and then click search again on order to find the once which are for only the US market. The GTA game I could not find at all (not that I need it), but Google Play keeps offering me stuff from Chinese market. I guess he thinks I am in China? Is there fix for this?

The main issue I am having is the HDMI block. As I mentioned I bought this "toy" to stream from hulu, Netflix and HBO GO. Only Netflix works The rest of them say that they do not support "HDMI". Is there workaround? I tried to access these sites directly from firefox, but maan, they know I am from "android" and they know that I am plugged in through HDMI. )) Does anybody have solution for this?

Lastly I made plenty of videos from unboxing all the way to installing Finless ROM. Are you guys interested in them? Shall I post them here?

this needs to be fixed by editing your framework.jar file. there is someone in another forum who has already done this.

use the 09/03 version if you are using the finless v1.4. after this your market will be set for tmobile USA.

easy way fixing it is market enabler app ! downgrade is that everytime you want to go in playstore you must again enable it, but bob write here on forum that this will be fixed in next ROM relase.

how is this the easy way? you have to do it everytime you reboot. just copy the framework.jar from the previous post and set permissions and ownership correctly and its a permanent fix. no need to wait for finless to fix it in the next release.

Do you guys think this problem is only with Finless Rom or whoever has the stock Rom has the same problem as well?

I tried to flash with "PC Flash tool" now my device doesn't boot anymore.
(blu light turn on)

I erased NAND without error. but i got error during flash ROM.

my PC doesn't decets UG802 anymore.

can I fix the problem? or dead?

Also, I'm having problems mounting NTFS formatted USB Thumbdrive into a powered USB hub which I have attached. Mounting FAT32 USB Drives seem to be ok.

I'm having the same issue when using NTFS.
FAT32 works fine but too bad it has that file size limit

I actually believe this is about Android not liking NTFS. Not Bob's image.

Hmmm,
anyone know how to switch between pointer mode and / touchscreen mode? for input devices?

I got a touchscreen connected ot my UG802 but i get a "blue cricle" mouse pointer.
When i move the finger on the touchscreen it moves the pointer RELATIVE to the movement on the screen. But not under my finger - wich is quite annoying.

I haven't done anything as of yet, but i did notice that the wireless is already improved.
Previously, I had to connect to my laptop using Connectify, now i can connect to my original connection on my router.

One thing i would like to point out, I'm not sure if it has been already or not, Is that, at point
7 :

In there change the "USB Computer Connection" to "Mass Storage". Windows will BONG it found a device.
Note: If it was already set to that, change it to "Media Device (MTP)".
Windows will BONG again it found a device and NOW again switch it back to Mass Storage.
The point is we need that change in state!!!

I could NOT get it to detect, i found out after trying three or four times, it was because i had USB debugging ticked (Turned on).
Once i turned it off (unticked it)

So i would like to suggest for all the people like me, who had previously done something else on the UG802, and forgot to UNtick USB debugging, to add that after Point 7, and After Point 8.

So it would hopefully read like this from now on:

If it does NOT say that, then repeat steps 6,7,8.

Shutdown

Anyone else having troubles with the "shutdown" feature of the Finless ROM? My 802 doesn't actually shutdown, it reboots when I select that. So clicking reboot and shutdown seem to have the same effect. I was hoping for a proper shutdown as I seem to be corrupting the VFAT filesystem on my external_sd card whenever I drop power on it. I have to keep reformatting it (fsck.msdos from the command line doesn't seem to fix it properly). Can't find a way to do a graceful shutdown. Is there maybe a command-line way to do that as a workaround?
