Hey many thanks for the TV stock variant. But now I have myself a problem. I purchased 2 mecools, one for me and one for my father. The thing is that I updated both to TV Stock variant because I like it a lot and I think is the perfect experience, but my father somehow thinks that the TV Box was fine with version 20171124. The thing is that I searched 20171124 downloaded it, and went to install it but I get error: the firmware model is "p21x"

What can or should I do?

I ended up downloading 20170919 fixed version and then went back to stock smoothly, after that I managed to install easily 20171124 or 20171128 (both work ok for me, i don't know the differences)

M8S Pro Plus simple cooling experiment.

Room Temperature at the time of the temperature measurements was 20-21C
Unit temperature idle with just default home screen is 40c-- no activity.

My M8S Pro Plus using the CPU-Temp APK and stock OEM firmware and heat sink, Generates a Cpu Temp reading of 79-80 C using Kodi 17.6 during scraping for sources.
Upon finding a source, and running a 1080 movie, the temperature are 68-72 C.

Just as a simple trial to get the temperature down. I have a 12vdc 80mm 100ma fan, which I installed a USB plug. I set the fan perpendicular to the M8S pro plus so the air would flow in to the
side vents of the box. Plugged the usb connector in, fan runs at moderate speed, no noise, on the 5vdc USB port with a 35ma draw.
The results..Kodi streaming temperature dropped to 47-50C on 1080 stream, when scraping, temperature was around 59-61C.

Nice thing about using the outboard fan, the USB port when the unit is turned off by the remote, the USB power is also turned off, so the fan is not on while idle/not in use.

Most USB cables are somewhat standard, I.E. red is 5 vdc, and black is ground. So red to red on fan, and blk to blk on fan.

I also tried Terrarium 1.9.2 on the same 1080 stream Temperature of The box using Terrarium was 10c less than Kodi 17.6
Scraping with Terrarium also shows 10 c less than on Kodi 17.6

I did these simple tests in preparation of receipt of the MeCool M8S Pro -W and -L.
Since I have read that many have heat issues with the -L versions.
I just wish to avoid any heat related issues with the simple fan use.

The -w should show up any day now, with the -L to follow by about 7-10 days.
Upon arrival, I will re-test my simple cooling fan add-on.

Temperatures would go down more if I cut out an opening in the top and placed the fan directly above the CPU heat sink.
Which is what I think I will do for a permanent solution.

If you decide to try this, I would make sure you have some idea of what the current draw of the fan you are going to use, most are marked
directly on the fan, such as 12 vdc @ 100 ma as an example, most USB ports current output is about 500mha depending on device.
As I mentioned above, my fan is drawing 35ma at the 5vdc via the USB port (measured).

First of all thank you for the great work Guest .

I noticed two issues using the ROM for a little bit more than 2 weeks :
- Issue when using a 2.4GHz keyboard (Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400 with French Azerty layout). Whenever I change the layout to French Azerty layout, the layout set up is not saved. As a result I can only use the chosen layout until I restart/sleep the box. After starting back the box, the layout is set back to default value (US Qwerty layout). I there any way to save the chosen layout or set it as default?

- Whenever I browse want to modify settings in 'Settings > More Settings > Languages & input' and try to press the Back button, the setting app crashes and stop (I'm suddenly back to home screen). Is anyone facing the same issue?

Hi wonder if anyone can help me ordered few boxes from gearbest and geekbuying no issues with flashing and using custom Rom run fantastic

and just received the latest 3 from geekbuying , went ahead to flash 1 of them but kept getting crashes and restarts I have taken pictures of the rom that came with and seems newer then before and also taken picture of board chip

not sure if want to flash the other one just incase this rom issue and not box issue also cannot find the stock ROM 20171208.183013.V0928 so can flash it back and see if still get same issues

I buy this box only to watch Amazon prime video on my TV, and a guy on Gearbest write in comment that this box working well with Prime video...
but...... with the original rom or with this android TV .... I can't !

I've try several apk, and in the best case app install but don't read video.
I try through Web browser.... same thing...

someone here have success ? Have I miss something ? someone can help me please ?

I really don't understand that all smart phone under android work fine with prime video but TVbox can't.....

i have a huge problem. I have been using this rom for some time without any trouble.
However, i tried to unroot it and now when I turn on the box, after a nexus sign passes i get stuck into the google sign.
Now, I have the box without the reset button and i tried to reset it by reconnecting pins on the motherboard to enter in twrp or bootloader so I could install freshly with usb burring tool but unsuccessfully.
Ether way when i plugin the usb or power cable it just start booting but then it stays stuck.
any help or I bricked my box?

Hi, can anyone help me i have bought boxes in the past from gearbest and geekbuying and had no issues with using custom rom

latest one i bought from geekbuying i noticed the stock firmware is 20171208.183013.V0928 and flashed the custom rom and it was crashing box keeps restarting I have attached pictures of board chip and rom version that it came with .. is this box not suitable for custom rom ?

I'm asking a question which I admit to not fully understanding but do you know if its possible to implement in your builds support for standard Google Mediacodec rather than Amlogic Amcodec? While not new news, starting with Kodi Krypton, Kodi Android builds no longer supports Amcodec meaning using most Amlogic Android boxes as Kodi PVR frontend results in unreliable deinterlacing and mpeg2/ h.264 1080i hardware decoding. The work around is to use an old version of Kodi or LibreELEC but is there anything you can do in your firmware to support Google Mediacodec?

I actually read a lot of success with flashing the new FW on the crashing devices. I used the file from here:

The Version is: M8S PRO+ ota 20171124.183803.V0928.zip

I tried it directly from UI with the local update. Unfortunately I used "wipe data" and "wipe media" Buttons...
The Flash process went well, but after rebooting the box Shows red and blue at the same time. Unfortunately it doesn't boot anymore and also the reset button or shortcut at the "K1" Position on the bottom does not help to get in USB-Flashing-Tool a device shown anymore.

Unfortunately the Flash throug USB-Flashing-Tool didn't work, so I did it with the SD-Card Methode through zip file.

Also of Course I have one of the bad devices with the Chip:

Does anyone have suggestions to unbrick the device? The flashing was completed and seemed to work well. Is there also something like MARKROM MODE for the AMLOGIC-Devices to unbrick it with flashing the Firmware again?

I am really desperate after I read so much and didn't find the Samsung-Logo and thought it is ok to Flash my device. It was not usuabel because of a lot of reboots and Kodi 17.6 always crashed after a few seconds of trying to Play a movie...
