Leolas, I know that you just returned but I have one more request.
Just received atv580 box, and I like to try to install cwm on it. I have no links for the installed rom (Android 4.2.2 kernel 3.0.36+) is there any existing version I can try? Would need to use SD card method since there is no otg port and it did not come rooted unlike the atv520.

    Thanks
    For your mx1:http://www.freak-tab.de/leolas/cwm/m...covery.img.zip

If your device is not rooted you cant make a backupof your full rom and without your stock recovery I cant make a cwm for it
Can you connect from adb to it? What is your os? I can try to make a script to backup your actual rom and recovery from adb, and when we got a dump we can make a cwm for it.

If CWM is flashed on my device, if I use RockChip Batch Tool to flash original manufacture file "update.img" will that overwrite CWM and restore back to factory state?

Device I'm referring to is TimingPower RK3188 if it makes a difference I also have a Minix Neo X7 don't remember what Minix provides as file to do write firmware.
Yes, it will completely remove all on your nand, cwm inclusive.

Thanks Leolas, will test it on my mx1 when I get home.

Regarding the atv580, it has two USB ports but no otg
Would it be possible to adb over LAN or wifi?
      My OS is windows7

      Thanks

Sure it has no OTG port? one of the usb ports are not OTG? I will take a look to this device.
I just see his specification without usb OTG how you can upgrade it? It makes no sense Any instructions about update procedure in the manual?

There is reset button on the bottom that on the atv520 was used if you want to use Linux XBMC installationinstead of Android. Android updates were done using upgrade app that was included on the device (This app is not included on the atv580 anymore ane the Android 4.2.2 install is very clean)
The ATV580 looks exactly the same but now they use RK3188 chipset
Here is the procedure how to:
              Firmware Installation Instructions (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r07v...e&noredirect=1)
              1. Copy all files into a Micro SD card's root directory.
*Note: Flashing with a USB Flash drive is not currently supported.

              Files should include:
              factory_update_param.aml
              factory_update_param.ubt
              spi_MX.bin
              recovery.img
              MX_LINUX-STVMX-update.zip

              2. Disconnect the power plug from the MyGica ATV520 and connect a HDMI cable with a ready HDTV.

              3. Insert the Micro SD card into the MyGica ATV520's Micro SD slot.

              4. Locate a paper clip and extend one end into a straight 2+ inch rod.

              5. Turn over the MyGica ATV520 and look at the bottom cover, you should see the MyGica logo north side and the text should be in its correct orientation.

              6. Locate a single pin hole with an "UPGRADE" word above it.

              7. Slowly insert the paper clip into the pin hole.

              8. When you feel a solid surface, the paper clip has reached the top of the service button.

              9. Gently push inward to activate the service button and remain holding the service button pressed.

              10. While the service button is pressed, connect the power plug and wait 10 seconds.

              11. Release the service button and remove the paper clip from the MyGica ATV520.

              12. A Android robot should appear on the HDTV. The MyGica ATV520 will now flash the firmware and reboot automatically.

The system should now boot directly into XBMC. Remove the Micro SD card after a successful boot.

Yes, the 520 is AMlogic chipset and the plan was that 580 will be new AMlogic chipset as well but then some how they decided to go with Rockchip. They look identical on the outside, use same remote...

Rockchip without OTG is a very bad idea, if something goes wrong you will have tons of problems to fix it
