Just wanted to update that the HDMI passthrough in Kodi works well (tried AC3 and DTS). I will try the DD+ (E-AC3) and DTS-HD tonight and will report. These did not work on the same version of Kodi (17.6) in android 6.0.1.

I see new hardware from these Chinese OEM coming very soon with 8.0 as the selling point, they then forget about z6 like the others before it.
That's true... so I should not worry too much about kernel updates

      yes any trace of it
Ok, so I flashed the original kernel and:
      - can't see my gamepad in /proc/bus/input/devices
      - can't insmod xpad.ko renamed to xpad2.ko : dmesg tells me xpad.ko already loaded (like before renaming)

-> Kernel patching is my only solution...

I just root with magesk or SuperSU then use ES File Explorer
I did not want to install ES File Explorer because I remembered that it was not that good now (it used to be great but ads and other crappy things were added). Anyway, once rooted, it works (but I'm still asked to allow write permissions each time I want to write to SD, even it works without those permissions) and is not that crapy on Android TV.

I use the KitKat version of Solid Explorer, i think it is still available as classic. Used ES long ago when I first had Jellybean, did not like it as much as solid.

3D is broken on that because of openGL I had to fix it. in fact I just gave them the fix yesterday on their freaktab forum

I simply run rant antutu benchmark for curiosity after firmware installation. Probably my and others 706D version of GT1 have some different components that allow vorke firmware to run 3D. Some screenshots:

              that's really odd.

Anyway can you run it on this rom and tell me if the refinery test completes more than once? this part of the test does not run on stock as its only OpenGL3.0
So your score should be around 55,000 on this

With antutu 7.04 testing stops at 17% (passed Refinery test and stops loading near the end of Coastline test) with antutu 6.37 (3dbench is 6.11) all passed with score of 41000.
Post some screenshots when I can.

Do you have 2GB RAM? I can complete the whole test if tweaking lmk settings but only once, it seems one of the apk gets killed half way
                    because of out of memory

The patch does not work but this is not a big problem. I'll stay with ES File Explorer and this nasty little permission window (or install Xposed framework and module for writing to sd)

                  Thanks anyway :-)

Is it able to write to SD ? I tried the non classic version and could not write to SD (even if rooted)

try using the mains lead copper.
connect box to usb burning tool, put power to box then try.
